I've just watched about 10 minutes of Krasnov's addressed to the Knesset. I could not stomach more than that. But anyone thinking that he is going to be shuffling off this mortal coil from dementia is mistaken. This was the Trump of old: lucid (for him), concise (for him) and in clearly touch with his audience.
Here is my takeaway: it's not Stephen Miller who is perpetrating monstrous evil against the United States, it's Krasnov himself.; His cruelty knows no bounds. 'Is he dead yet' Is the most important question that has been posted on DU. Rot in hell, Donald.
EDIT: I thought this would be unpopular for suggesting that Trump's dementia is not as severe as imagined. He is the author of the cruelty, no one else.

(44,294 posts)Yes, he is absolutely insane. He always has been. And combine that with at least some age-related decline, it's an especially disturbing combination.
But I'm not going to let him off the hook, or claim that he's the unwilling puppet behind somebody else.
Yes, he outsources a lot of the nitty gritty to equally repulsively cretins like Miller, mainly because he's either too lazy or too stupid to handle the details.
But he absolutely knows what he's doing.
He's his own evil and he is responsible for everything that happens under him.

But he serendipitously has a machine that has been fine tuning its gears for some time. It aligns with the anti democratic voice reverberating in his head.
He thinks of himself as the puppet master, but symbiotically, Miller, Vought and his cast of infidels know the dance steps.
The anti democracy movement has been here for 250 years. It finally found its head. Hopefully its climax is premature.

He is being managed by psychotropic drugs is my guess. So he appears very sleepy and drugged at times and at other times he seems more like himself.
He is still evil to his core and full of revenge plots and plans. There is no end to his hate and malevolence.
His appearance today is NO reason to forget that he is as mean as a snake or to think he is somehow a normal human being. He is not. Most medical professionals say that what is wrong with him is not curable. Of course, they told us this before he was elected the first time. Unfortunately, a lot of people did not listen and in fact kind of liked the mean, hateful guy. They actually thought hed be good for this country.
So here we are 10 years later watching him wreck the country and destroy the very foundation we were built on. Hell continue his wrecking ball approach until he dies or we figure a way to remove him from office. Do not be fooled by an appearance that is designed to puff him up and distract us further from the fact he is a pedophile, rapist and convicted criminal.
What a time to be alive to witness history.

(12,131 posts)It seems that when dementia hits the narcissits and psychos, their hate and anger mask their obvious declining speaking and thinking abilities. An angry man yelling "move" sounds much more capable than a calm person asking you to please move aside.
But his dementia is worse. Look at some old videos of Trump talking. He use to speak clearly, in complete sentences, and with more accurate and difficult words. He clearly has dementia and it will get worse. It never gets better.
But dementia isn't a gradual downhill slide. It goes in fits and starts. There will be good days and bad days but eventually it will be all bad days. There are drugs and personality issues that can hide it. But eventually nothing will hide it.
But he will always be a nasty piece of work.
littlemissmartypants
(30,186 posts)That's the only reason I listened.
His content is undoubtedly created by someone else. But his speech patterns are all his and speaking volumes all their own.

(127,784 posts)Like most people with that condition, he's can be (relatively) lucid one day and produce nothing but gibberish the next. I don't think there's much doubt in anyone's mind that his thought processes have become more and more incoherent over time; the fact that on some days he seems like a relatively normal though stupid and obnoxious old man doesn't mean his brain isn't turning to mush. It's just that there are still days were he can use the parts that haven't yet reached the consistency of tapioca. As to the evil part - it's quite possible to be both senile and evil, but Trump isn't good at details even on his lucid days, and he's lazy. He needs evil people like Miller and the other orcs that populate his regime to execute the evil, like Hitler needed Goering and Goebbels and Himmler. Trump gets ideas from Miller and the others, and from whatever toxic crap he gets from Fox "News," and he sends the flying monkeys out to do the job.

(127,784 posts)I hate to be a cynic, but this is a tragic situation arising from many years of mutual hostility, and each side has repeatedly announced its goal of annihilating the other. Hamas is a terrorist organization that has proclaimed its desire to kill all Jews; Netanyahu wants to eventually remove all Palestinians from Gaza so he and Trump can build a seaside resort. There is no good faith on the part of anybody any more, and I don't expect this cease-fire to last more than a few weeks - it's likely to go the way of other cease-fires that have been cobbled together in that region. Read and weep: https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/world/575749/why-the-gaza-ceasefire-could-collapse-over-coming-days

Darnell1972
(25 posts)I recognize that the cease fire will likely not be a lasting peace in that region but I certainly hope that it has a positive impact that reduces future violence coming from both sides. Given the history, I will celebrate even a single day of peace where bystanders including children, are not blown up for merely being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

(6,908 posts)It is merely a ceasefire. Full implementation "Trump Plan" is contingent on Hamas agreeing to disarm and relinquish power in Gaza. To quote Wayne's World, that will happen when monkeys fly out of my butt. As we speak, Hamas is battling other militias who are trying to use the partial withdrawal of IDF to their own advantage.
Don't fall for Trump's grand claims. The road to any lasting peace will be long and difficult.

Metaphorical
(2,528 posts)I have dealt with relatives with Alzheimer's. As the disease progresses, even before they get to the stage where they no longer recognize others, there is a period where they become nasty, hateful, vile and vindictive, and sociopathic. Trump has long (perhaps not always, but likely through much of his life) been a malignant narcissist, and I think his first term in office was intended to ultimately seize power, but he was still hamstrung by incompetence at first, then by a Congress that did manage to thwart those goals. He waited too long, assumed that the takeover would be easier than he thought.
I think his intent was originally to find a way to keep from being prosecuted for his swindles. Once in office, however, once he realized how much power he had, the idea of actually taking control of the entire country took hold, especially after he realized that so long as the Democrats were in power in any part of Congress he'd be blocked. I think he spent the next four years looking at ways he could game the system (yes, I think the election was rigged), and he tapped specific people for the purpose of tearing down the existing political establishment.
The dementia is real, and if anything it, has leant urgency to his actions. He may even be dying, but if he is, he's going to bring the whole world down with him. This is not atypical thinking for people with mid-stage dementia.

(1,678 posts)they have good days and bad days. So if Trump got a good night's sleep and gave a somewhat cogent speech, that should not be surprising.
People generally don't die of dementia. They die from not taking care of themselves, and from other age-related conditions that are not directly related to dementia.
I expect they can prop Trump up for another 3 years, but he will have increasingly frequent bad days. And on another tangent, if Trump had actually accomplished anything significant, one would think he would have moved this along so it could be considered for the Peace Prize. So evidently, this was not one of the 8 wars that Trump has personally ended.
It is, in fact, a genocide that is taking a pause. This "war" won't be over until Trump and his buddies can build hotels where Palestinians once lived. There is a lot more genocide to come before that point.

(1,472 posts)I've said all along that those who call him crazy or deluded or demented are not giving enough credit. He sounds crazy or deluded or demented because he lies so much. He has repeatedly demonstrated that he is very aware of the difference between what he says in public and what he tells those near him in private, that it's highly intentional and conscious, and that even at his most incoherent and irrelevant he is not unmoored, but following a chosen strategy. Wandering off topic into random bullshit is a personal technique he calls "the weave".
That said, his health clearly isn't great, and there are reports of him having some bad days. Maybe he'll be gone by spring, or maybe not. But bad health does not explain the nonsensical way he communicates that's something he does on his good days.
It's also clear that when he isn't actively steering policy, and the Chief of Staff is sending out orders on his behalf, that Miller is every bit as vicious and cruel as his master, perhaps even more so.
