They should be giving you meds for the pain.
Broken bones are very painful.

I have done the same thing and it is such a shock.
One minute you are perfectly fine, a small trip and you are flat in your back
in the hospital, in pain, and cannot walk or move.

But you are in the hospital and being taken care of.
They will put some pins in the wrist I assume and start physical therapy
right away hopefully.

The physical therapists will be the ones to get you up and moving again.

Do you wear a cast or boot with a broken knee cap?

In a leg cast. It was the one with Velcro straps.

You mean they put you in the leg cast with velcro straps in the past?

Has the orthopedic surgeon come to talk with you about your wrist and knee yet?
Or was it just the ER doc you said you needed surgery?

The orthopedic surgeon will want their own X-rays.
Not the ER X-rays.
And will give you more accurate info than what you got from the ER doc.

You are lucky. I broke my leg and ankle during the height of the Covid pandemic.
Everything was shut down. I sat at home for two weeks taking pain pills trying
to find an orthopedic surgeon who was still working and they were trying to find
an operating room that was still open. I ended up getting the surgery for my leg
and ankle in a cardiac facility and the orthopedic docs and anesthesiologists were cussing
and throwing instruments because they didn't have their usual tools and equipment.
The doc said to put me under right away so I didn't have to see what was going on.

I was just sharing about what type of cast they put me in. This was around 1988. It would be great if there is better technology now but it was doable. Much better than a plaster cast!!!

Yes I had more recent surgery and they use plaster casts only for the
two weeks after surgery. Then they switch you to a boot.

Could not operate or drive the thing. And kept tipping over going around a corner.

Then I tried one of those motorized thingies in the grocery store.
Almost hit a man and knocked over a display.

So I just used a walker. Then finally walked on my own.
Now I walk 4 miles a day. Thank god.

I declined surgery and just got a cast.

Getting a cast is the old fashioned way now - they pin everyone.

They told me if I didn’t get a pin my hand would be crooked and I said I didn’t care. It is a little crooked.

The positive of getting pinned is you can use your wrist sooner.

Good healing vibes to you.

Hope you have in home loved ones.
I am week 4 into Achilles surgery, live alone and my awesome nurse daughter moved hours away the night after surgery. Been hell here alone and it all starts taking me into dark thoughts with pain and needing to be in the woods with my lab, but thinking that may never get here. So I am sending you all my best vibes for a quick heal and hope all your loved ones pour that love and care on you.
Pain sucks !!! Be well fast. Better days ahead.
Now I know why the references to “your Achilles Heal” is all about the most vulnerable injury you can get. And that knee is right there too.

Oh, no additional injuries, and excellent PT, and OP therapists!
(had a tri-fractured ankle in ? 2012. Living alone had to go into rehab. )

GOOD LUCK!
