Wild that Trump has sent armed military into Illinois from red state Texas as he muses about 'jailing' the Dem governor

The Texas National Guard boarded a military plane on Monday afternoon in Texas, as state and city leaders in Illinois were holding a news conference asking them to stay away from Chicago.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Monday shared a photo on social media showing what he called the state's "elite" National Guard boarding a plane, but he did not say where they were headed.

"Illinois will not let the Trump administration continue on their authoritarian march without resisting," Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker said. "We will use every lever at our disposal to stop this power grab because military troops should not be used against American communities."

Earlier Tuesday, Abbott had replied to Pritzker on social media, saying, "I fully authorized the President to call up 400 members of the Texas National Guard to ensure safety for federal officials."

Among the military officials whom WLS recorded video of at the Army Reserve Center on Tuesday was two-star Maj. Gen. Niave Knell, the deputy commanding general of U.S. Army North.

As Troops Invade Chicago, Trump Threatens to Jail the Mayor and Governor

...I get that this is mostly Kabuki, but this is a Texas republican governor agreeing with the republican president to commit troops to 'carry out the president orders' as Trump is threatening to jail the Democratic governor and mayor; basically one state warring against the other with the full weight and authority of the federal government behind them.

It's an Executive-sanctioned civil war waged by a republican state and governor against a Democratic state and governor. This is madness on top of tyranny.

...who just might approve this militarized suspension of liberties carried out by troops from a politically opposed state and White House colluding together, Texas complcit in Trump's constitutional overreach and outlandish threats against state leaders who are at the point of Trump's unwanted, unasked for federalized military forces.

On Monday, Pritzker sent a letter to the National Governors Association Chair Kevin Stitt, urging him to denounce a plan to send members of the Texas National Guard to Illinois to assist the Illinois National Guard in defending federal agents conducting immigration enforcement in Chicago.

“This is precisely the federal and interstate overreach we warned against — gubernatorial authority being trampled, state sovereignty being ignored, and the constitutional balance between states being attacked,” Pritzker in his letter. “If the President continues overriding Governors to deploy military assets into another state against another Governor’s will, we have abandoned the foundational principles that have protected our Republic for nearly 250 years.”

“The credibility of the National Governors Association — and our integrity as state executives—rests on our willingness to apply our principles consistently, regardless of which administration attacks them. Should National Governors Association leadership choose to remain silent, Illinois will have no choice but to withdraw from the organization. I remain hopeful that principled leadership will prevail over political calculation and we can chart a path forward together,” he continued.

...as if there's no potential harm.

And the entire thing about letting another state impose their military forces on another state... anyone should be extremelyconcerned about what the heck is next from these new alliances between the WH and republican states against Democratic-led ones.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson’s comments came in response to President Donald Trump’s deployment of National Guard troops to Chicago and other cities amid growing tensions over immigration enforcement. The mayor accused the administration of targeting urban communities and undermining constitutional protections.

“I want that to sit in right now,” Johnson said on Oct. 6. “Because the President of the United States of America has declared war on the people of Chicago and people across America.”
