Pope Leo has escalated his quiet but growing feud with the Trump administration, instructing U.S. bishops to take a stronger public stand against the presidents hardline immigration policies, according to Reuters.
Meeting a delegation of bishops and social workers from the U.S.-Mexico border at the Vatican on Wednesday, the first American-born pope urged them to speak strongly on behalf of migrants and refugees affected by Trumps deportation drive.
El Paso Bishop Mark Seitz, who attended the meeting, said Leo, who was born and raised in Chicago, was visibly moved after being handed dozens of letters from immigrants describing their fears of arrest and separation under the administrations enforcement policies.
Our Holy Father is very personally concerned about these matters, Seitz told Reuters. He expressed his desire that the U.S. Bishops Conference would speak strongly on this issue.
Leos reported remarks mark the latestand most directintervention by the pontiff in U.S. domestic politics since his election in May to replace the late Pope Francis. While initially cautious, the pontiff has recently sharpened his criticism of President Donald Trumps agenda, particularly on immigration and social policy.

What I REALLY wish he'd do is start excommunicating all the RCs in Shitler's government, starting with Shady McMaybelline and proceeding...

(6,956 posts)have already trash talked Christ Himself, calling His teachings 'too woke.' So I doubt these fanatics would hesitate going after the Pope.

(12,211 posts)I've been mystified why other religious leaders, those of good faith and good will, have not come out publicly to condemn the Administration's purposeful cruelty and hate-mongering. The ultra-conservative Catholic Bishops may have their hackles raised by any number of liberal stances but the ongoing abuse of human rights is disgusting and anti-Christian. The conservatives didn't like Pope Francis. I suspect they'll have problems with Pope Leo as well.
As for myself, a lapsed Catholic of many decades, I cheer this out reach and Pope Leo's direct messaging to his Bishops. I'd really like to see and hear other denominations and faiths speaking out as well.
