(4,392 posts)I'm retired. Where I live I have very low, if any, cellular connectivity. Therefore I NEVER give this phone number out, I can't use it for texting (unless to another iPhone), and so I just don't use it for those purposes.
I did receive that text message. I was wondering where they got that number from.
I don't respond to ANY texts like this. I think responding tells them they have a legit # to harass. (I am all for No Kings Day, but usually I get stuff asking me to click this link, or to call back, that they have been trying to reach me (no names used, and I get the same text/voicemail message from several different area codes).
I suspect them all!
And WHY isn't Congress talking about or doing anything about all the ways in which we are (attempted) to be scammed? Seems like a National Emergency to me.
They call your phone, they text you, they pop up on your computer and try to fool you. I am aware of the fact that these are all scams, but I worry about our elders, who do not have the same kind of computer savvy as our younger people do (and I am no spring chicken myself)
BEWARE! DON'T CLICK ON ANY LINKS IN TEXT OR EMAIL MESSAGES, DO NOT PRESS #1 ON UNKNOWN PHONE CALLS, AND MOST OF ALL: DON'T GET SCAMMED. NEVER give access to your computer or smart phone to unknown people, they will drain your bank account if you use online banking. VPNs are Good.
Stay safe! We have to watch each others backs.
