Leaving MAGA (organization): Know someone in MAGA who is beginning to see the light but might need help escaping?

Know someone in MAGA who is beginning to see the light but might need help escaping? The organization "Leaving MAGA" can help.
Empower others to leave MAGA and tell their stories.
Foster reconciliation with their friends and family.
Develop movement leaders to help others leave.

individuals. For one thing, they will need a new community that will replace the one they left. For another thing, they will need confirmation and reinforcement of new beliefs and behaviors.

i only have 1 magat in my life. an old bf. he left behind a huge clan of burners. they want nothing to do w him. he doesnt even go to burns any more. it might take some work, but many of those ppl wd take him back.
one of the last times i saw him i told him i was here for him if he wanted to climb out of his rabbit hole. he used to respect my knowledge of politics and issues. dont know if i wd f him again, but i wd b happy to talk to him. unfortunately he has married in the meantime (i was the other woman) and i think she’s his main anchor to the hate. he’s miserable w her. it was always a weird relationship. but what he loves the most about her is that she’s a bigger hater than he is.
that’s a tough bond to break. he was a junkie when they met, and she helped him get clean. he feels like he owes her his life. i suspect that’s not an unusual story.

Hannity, among others, is very charismatic. He has his message and uses it well. In just a few weeks of listening to these shows, you become hooked, like a drug.

This is not too dissimilar to Sun Myung Moon of several years ago. This is why it is su frustrating to argue with a MAGA. In some ways, they get to a point where they can't help it.

This will be a long process.

A lot of us have been saying for years that MAGA is a cult, which means that (among many other things) it's hard to leave. I'm glad to see that someone is addressing this aspect of MAGA. It seems very timely to me, and I hope the website is helpful to people who are starting to see Trump and MAGA for what they are.

Those who make sweeping statements about all MAGA folk being irredeemably evil need to think again, because humans are much more complex than that. Better yet, they should familiarize themselves with how cults operate to pull people in and keep them there. This phenomenon has been extensively studied, and a lot has been written about it.

there are many voters who don't take elections as seriously as others. They just vote to "shake things up" and might switch for next election.

like it is American Idol - a popularity contest. Their reality TV habits have merged into their real life and they seem clueless as to the repercussions of their choices. Meanwhile, they have become part of a group of seemingly like-minded people

In the Harvard Harris poll that came out over the weekend about 6% of people wish they'd voted for the other candidates, that's 6% on each side. I doubt most people are looking for a community or even entertainment, more likely an agenda that addresses their issues in a way acceptable to them. Our goal should be first kick no one out, any and all voters welcome, and second to welcome people switching over no matter what opinions they have on any issue or what they think of individual personalities.

Votes are where it's at. The most votes win.

So should we all!

AND we should unconditionally welcome everyone who makes the switch to our views.
