Trump left 'rattled' by cold response from military leaders: Ex-generalhttps://www.rawstory.com/trump-was-rattled-by-cold-response-from-military-leaders-during-speech-ex-general/
And the other thing I'd say is, President Trump thrives on applause and cheering and interactions with an audience, he continued.
And when he didn't get that and instead got quiet professionalism from the soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines in the audience, that likely rattled him from the very beginning.
And that silence wasn't disrespect, he elaborated. It was restraint and discipline and adherence to the oath of office.
Yesterday was, to me, a collective reminder of our professional culture that we have in the military that transcends politics. It was on full display, and it was interesting to watch from both sides of the audience, he observed.

(24,839 posts)Crowd, many with multiple advanced degrees. And he talks at a third grade level about stuff a kindergartener would find stupid. Trump is a mad and frankly sad king. That people worship him is a pathetic statement about their sad and meaningless lives.

(20,402 posts)I think Hegseth should have challenged them to a hot dog eating contest. He could have ripped open is shirt, chugged a six pack (then crushing each can on his forehead and yelling "YEAAAAAAAAH!," then yelling at them to come up on the stage and TRY to defeat him as he pounded down one Nathan's after another.
Trump could have waddled around the stage, doing his "Moron Dance."
Talk about MISSED OPPORTUNITIES.

(12,780 posts)Presidents would know and respect their silence taking what they said to them seriously. But Trump lives off praise and applause and doesn't understand any of the rules.

(28,882 posts)He knows they don't usually clap, but they are allowed to, and to clap if they want. He said that.
He knew. So does DUI Pete. They were just shocked the Officers adhered to it.

(12,780 posts)Didn't clap as from what I heard they are mostly all republicans.
My son n law got up to Lt colonel in the AF and he had 3 years at the pentagon working with the generals when he was a major. It was working with them that turned him more conservative. Thankfully he and my daughter can't stand Trump because he has no morals and is not a good example to the kids.

(127,585 posts)They would have been respectful but quiet no matter which president was addressing them. Members of the military, particularly senior officers, refrain from clapping to avoid seeming to endorse a political agenda because their loyalty is sworn to the Constitution, not to a political party or individual. They are also expected to maintain a formal bearing, and clapping is considered an informal gesture that doesn't comport with the seriousness of the event - the generals were effectively "at attention." Kegbreath should have known this; Trump clearly didn't and was accustomed to applause, and it clearly threw him off his game when he didn't get any.

(11,315 posts)of any type in which Chump has participated over the years, this is the first where there are no "after" photos of Chump surrounded by attendees and with his stupid thumb stuck in the air. He loves that pose. It shows him he's been accepted, that he's one of the boys. Not this time, donnie boy. No one in that room - other than you - wanted a memento of the occasion.
