Two weeks from tomorrow, October 10, is when the Nobel Peace Prize winner will be announced,

and we can be damn sure who it won't be. What will Himself do when the winner turns out to be a person or an organization that has legitimately worked for peace? Maybe Pope Frances? Francesca Abanese, the UN special rapporteur for the West Bank and Gaza? the Committee to Protect Journalists? The OSCE’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights & The Carter Center? The Women's International League for Peace and Freedom? The International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court? (https://www.prio.org/nobellist)? The complete list of nominees is confidential; the committee doesn't release it, but there are more than 300. When he doesn't win, will he have a hissy fit on national TV or just post something crazy on Fake Twitter? Will he throw ketchup at the Norwegian Embassy and expel the ambassador? Impose insane tariffs?

Will that be the gasket that finally blows?

Stay tuned.

I prefer giving the Peace Prize to organizations that actually do something helpful for people injured, starved, relocated, tortured in conflicts. Rather than individuals in search of power and trophies.

I'd love to see World Central Kitchen or Doctors Without Borders get it. Trump is reported to have gone so far as to call up Jens Stoltenberg, Norway's finance minister (and former NATO head) to pester him about it (the Norwegian government has nothing to do with the deciding on the award, but Trump probably doesn't know or care). That's just embarrassing.

I wouldn't be surprised if Pete Kegbreath doesn't already have an aircraft carrier heading their way.

But I don't think it will come to that.
EVERY SINGLE PERSON ON EARTH HAS THEIR PRICE, and he will simply pay whatever it takes to "win it".

With taxpayer money of course.

since Norway is a founding member of NATO, and Sweden just joined. What happens if a NATO member invades another NATO member? But Trump's retaliation, if any, is more likely to take the form of ridiculously high tariffs (On what? Lutefisk? Salmon? Expensive wool sweaters?) coupled with obnoxious bluster.

Here's how you disguise how strong it is when serving rookies:
You cut the top off of a large PAPER milk carton.
You fill it almost to the top with water.
You drop LOTS of colorful flower petals into the carton.
Insert the Akavit bottle.
When it's frozen solid, remove the carton and you have a bottle frozen(the correct way to serve it) in a solid block of ice with flowers floating around in it.
It looks totally sweet and innocent.

and a huge embarrassment for the committee, two of whose members resigned in protest. Le Duc Tho refused the award and Kissinger eventually tried to return it. I doubt the committee, obviously consisting of different people now, want a reprise of that debacle. And apparently they are already taking a dim view of Trump's pressure campaign:

Donald Trump’s open pining for a Nobel Peace Prize may actually damage the president’s chances of ever being awarded the prestigious honor and the $1 million that comes with it.

While not mentioning the president by name, Asle Toje, deputy leader of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, said that “influence campaigns” are more likely to have “a negative effect than a positive one” when the panel decides who gets the annual award.

“Some candidates push for it really hard and we do not like it,” Toje told Reuters. “We are used to work in a locked room without being attempted to be influenced. It is hard enough as it is to reach an agreement among ourselves, without having more people trying to influence us.”
