So about Coca Cola using sugar. Does trump realize that we do not produce enough sugar in the USA for current demand?

Given that he wants to tariff everything coming in - Isn't this going to make a can of coca cola a lot more expensive? Not to mention further hurt American farmers that can't sell as much of their corn for corn syrup?

How Much Sugar Does the US Consume Each Year?

The average American consumes about 152 lbs of sugar each year, which is quite an increase from the 1970’s statistic of 123 lbs per year. It is advised to consume 10% of our calories from sugar, yet the current average is about three times over the suggested daily amount. The typical American consumes more than twice the average sugar intake of the 54 countries studied.

America must import about 3 million metric tons of sugar yearly to meet the demand for consumption. In 2019/2020, there was an all-time high amount imported at 3.38 million metric tons of sugar.

Not arguing the health benefit for or against just the practicality of his proposed plan.

the Fanjul family are sugar and land barons in Florida. I'm sure that Trump's sugar "ploy" has nothing to do with them.

I would imagine they would make a comeback. I actually prefer beet sugar to cane sugar.

US crop is heavily contaminated with glyphosate- Asia crop might be too -

US crop is sprayed with glyphosate right before harvest for even drying and sweeter sugar. This spraying is effecting the land and water in Florida and Louisiana.

I will only buy organic sugar and I eat 95% organically but unfortunately I love those Mexican cokes esp with a heavy meal as the acid really helps digestion. I make my own kombucha which works as good as coke for digestion- so I have more kombucha than coke but coke is addicting.
