Voice Over: There must be more to life than having everything, the note began.
Donald: Yes, there is, but I wont tell you what it is.
Jeffrey: Nor will I, since I also know what it is.
Donald: We have certain things in common, Jeffrey.
Jeffrey: Yes, we do, come to think of it.
Donald: Enigmas never age, have you noticed that?
Jeffrey: As a matter of fact, it was clear to me the last time I saw you.
Trump: A pal is a wonderful thing. Happy Birthday and may every day be another wonderful secret.

I assume Ghislaine Maxwell wrote this and trump just signed it. This really seems like a future blackmail or compomising letter that could be used to hold something over trump. Just look at the language; it's going out of its way to link trump and Epstein in some 'secret' activity.
So did Maxwell instigate this herself or did Epstein put her up to it so that he had something to hold over trump? Maxwell was a lot more smitten with Epstein than he with her and it's proven that she would do practically anything for him. She had a peculiarly dependent relationship with her father and the Maxwell family had lost much of their wealth in the pension scheme.
Of course, she could have needed a little insurance against both Epstein and trump, but I suspect that Jeffrey put her up to it - make sure trump was incriminated, after all he is too thick and arrogant to read what she'd witten and understand it.
Lots of questions but I'll back it in that the birthday letter was deliberately incriminating.

(3,064 posts)Imagining this letter. The voice over stuff. Oh I know Trump was all in on his friend Jeff but for me this comes off as confusing.

(8,363 posts)in 2003 he would have had ample time to do it himself, or with the help of say (what's-her-name, long time secretary?)
Will be interesting to hear Michael Cohen's take.

"Nor will I" - Well spoken Brit
"A pal" - Brit term, not mate or buddy
Use of colons and commas - someone who's been taught good english.

(8,363 posts)In years past, I did deep dives into the whole Epstein story, and I seem to have a faint memory of something about this book.
Also the use of playwriting dialogue is somewhat distanced yet intimate, like a close third party observer/confidant wrote it.

(8,363 posts)Epstein; that for as long as he was there, Epstein never called, never visited the office, nada. According to Cohen's observation, Epstein did not exist (obvs not literally, but as far as MC was concerned.)
So, hmmm.

(6,087 posts)Happened in 2004 so Cohen's comments would be consistent with the idea that they ceased all contact with each other after the falling out.

(67,260 posts)When Trump is through with people he never gives them another thought. They no longer exist to him.
Think of Trump as an evil robot who only sees what is useful to him in the moment.
