(6,830 posts)And kept trying to find ways to break the cycle. Either one parent stays home or find a job where both work at the same place that has free child care. The only time my husband and I got away with it was when I worked at the library at our local college and he worked in the college physical plant. They had free child care. The only hitch was when our daughter started school and one of us had to pick her up after school and bring her to the child care at work. Eventually she just hung in the library when she got older.

(1,429 posts)I was able to support myself at 17 working part time. I had an apt with a girl friend and we both worked part time waiting tables or cooking. We had almost zero material addictions. We lived cheap we felt pretty free. I think our rent was $200.00 mo all utilities paid, fully furnished Apt. That could never happen today. Corporations stole that from us. They are still doing it now.
