Upcoming "No Kings" Protest March Needs to Be a National Strike!

That would be "Good Trouble." What's this next national "No Kings" protest march supposed to actually accomplish? Why are we not having a national strike instead? If and until this is done, marches will not achieve any lasting positive result. It's just a feel good gesture. Follow Europe's lead on having a successful national strike. Power concedes nothing without demands.
.
What: Next national protest under the No Kings / 50501 banner

When: July 17, 2025

Why: Tribute to John Lewis on the anniversary of his death, carrying forward "good trouble"

Who’s organizing: The Transformative Justice Coalition and affiliated groups like American Constitution Society, Indivisible, Black Voters Matter, among others

I agree that we are at the point where people will need to take a step beyond rallies. Strikes have played important roles in gaining human rights. As a long-retired union worker, I understand that not everyone one can afford to. Likewise, boycotts can get results.

Still, I think that the time is rapidly approaching when we will need my generation to take the front lines in Gandhi/King nonviolent protest. It's curious that humans are the only living entities that require sacrifices. Not everyone, obviously. I've been studying Merton recently. Like everyone my age, I want to spend my remaining time in my garden, and playing with my itty-bitty grandchildren. Walking in nature with the dog, feeding the cats, and finding treats for what I believe to be the crankiest, most aggressive old hen in history.

But the time has come.

telling the younger generations what we think they should be doing, there may be benefit in showing them what worked best in the past.

focusing on voter rights and civil rights. They have been very clear that they want an educational component to be included. I know there are many rallies, some marches.
