A synopsis of Paxton's marital, legal and political problems

Paxton and his wife announce their divorce on biblical grounds.

Paxton was impeached by the Texas House for corruption involving a donor and real estate developer. As an aside, Paxton tried to get his mistress a job with the same developer.

The Senate failed to convict and his wife, a Senator, was prevented from voting on the impeachment; however, she was counted as present thereby increasing the required number of guilty votes.

The corruption was exposed by members of AG Paxton’s staff, who Paxton later fired. They filed a whistleblower lawsuit, prevailed, and were awarded $6.6 million. This being a Republican controlled state, the State of Texas paid the award.

DOJ was investigating the same corruption, but announced it was declining to prosecute shortly after Trump’s election

Prior to becoming AG, Paxton was indicted in 2015 for selling securities to investors without disclosing he was profiting from the sale of those securities. There was never a trial.

In March of 2024, Paxton and the State reached an agreement requiring Paxton to perform 100 hours of community service, 15 hours of legal ethics training, and $270,000 in restitution. After fulfilling these requirements, the state filed a motion to dismiss the charges.

OP - I’m betting the ethics training will have no effect.

she was on the senate floor, excused or recused from voting as a State senator, but present hearing all the testimony about his affair. She showed no emotion and by herself with everybody keeping awkwardly "respectfully" away. No detectable emotion. While the painful embarrassment might be obvious speculation, there appeared to be no clue about why she was standing by him. "Respectful" silence from the media, no interviews of course.

So her (Fundie?) component in the divorce statement fills in that blank, along with the predictable self-delusion.
