It is a nightmare for everyone living here. I need to find my passport just so I donât get kidnapped at the grocery store for not being white.

I will never, ever forgive the rest of America for this filth.
these videos collected and verified by @nbcnews.com represent a small fraction of many following a pattern: heavily armed authorities, little visible ID, often wearing masks while detaining people, sometimes violently, then putting them into vehicles. www.nbcnews.com/specials/tru...

(12,987 posts)I have not stepped foot in Home Depot since they started.............The original?/former owner is a MEGA Donor to the Republicans......
Although it is getting harder and harder to boycott corporations for the simple reason that if you want to boycott a corporation for their extreme right politics, pretty soon you wouldn't be able to buy anything.........
Citizens United circa 2010 was a complete upheaval in the power given to corporations.......
By the end of Trump's/Republican's term, I suspect that The United States of America will be changed to: The United Corporations of America..
And the Republicans have the very very best politicians and government that the U.S. Corporations can buy............

Being a citizen is not sufficient protection.

(14,447 posts)They are starting with the immigrants, and in the process getting everyone acclimatized to unidentifiable, unaccountable armed forces roaming the US, kidnapping and dissapearing people around us.
They started with people they could argue were a legit target for deportation, Now it expands to others more indiscriminately. To get us used to it.
Literally "first they came for" is happening here and now.

Unfortunately Home Depot has a better selection of items, I find. And they keep their Christmas tree lot up longer.

(113,680 posts)It used to be Home Depot between 5 AM and 7:30 AM, before the store opened. Every so often I'd get out of work early enough to see the last of them out there, waiting for work.
Maybe they're lining up outside Costco, about a quarter of a mile away and opening a little later.
ICE hasn't been jackbooting here in NM. Workers haven't gone into hiding -- yet. Given what a putz the founder and majority stockholder of Home Depot is, I can see them reassembling elsewhere.
(I haven't shopped there for decades. I might hold my nose to buy some Behr paints there, that brand is fantastic and HD holds an exclusive contract with the company. I can get anything else they stock elsewhere)

(21,141 posts)I see several comments here about boycotting Hone Depot, and i have some questions about that.
First, how is any of this Home Depot's fault? I know the founders were Trump supporters and big donors to at least his first election campaign. But according to Wikipedia, those people don't own Home Depot anymore. The company went public decades ago and is now mainly owned by institutional investors, to the tune of about 70% of shares.
And second, just exactly what is it that Home Depot should be doing about this? What even could they do? Don't people get arrested themselves if they try to interfere with an Ice Raid? I guess they could bar ICE from their property, at least in theory, but is that really feasible?
I am as horrified and outraged by what ICE is doing these days as anyone else here, and I wish it would stop. I just don't understand how boycotting Home Depot is supposed to help.
PLEASE NOTE: I know some are boycotting them for other reasons, like their compliance with Trump's order for businesses to abolish DEI programs, and I get that. I just don't see how boycotting Home Depot is going to help with this particular issue (the ICE raids), or why Home Depot should be punished because ICE has decided to conduct raids on their property. If I am missing something, please fill me in, because I'm probably not the only one.

(34,851 posts)This. 1000%. But I keep going back to the question of: did they really elect him? He was so unusually quiet after the election, like he was waiting for a shoe to drop. He admitted several times that people won't need to vote, etc etc.
Did women really sign away our rights?
It's one thing to be betrayed but there's a level of uncertainty that leaves me unsure of how to maneuver through this.
