Texas can't adequately warn people about deadly floods, but it can immediately let me know that a cop got hurt 250 miles away from me.
THIS IS EXACTLY WHY SO MANY TURN COMPLETELY OFF
ANY PUBLIC WARNINGS ALERTS ON THEIR CELL PHONES
Endless USELESS ALERTS.
Who gives a damn whether someone got hurt 100s of miles away !!
Sorry it happened,, BUT THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO DAMN REASON TO ALERT 20+ MILLION TEXAS RESIDENTS !
AND there is ABSOLUTELY nothing ABOUT these useless ALERTS with THE MILLIONS AND MILLIONS OF TEXAS RESIDENTS care about!
Who gives a damn !?

(1,511 posts)don't get weather alerts, but do check the various weather channels frequently, especially if there is rough weather in our area.

(2,092 posts)I'm curious.
I live in a relatively safe area, most we get are severe thunderstorms in summer or snow.
I wonder after Texas, how people who deal with severe weather, protect themselves especially where cell service is limited.
Do they rely on sirens?

(1,511 posts)We keep enough supplies on hand for at least ten days, especially during hurricane season. I don't sleep well any way, and during rough weather I am constantly checking various weather sources (local t.v. and radio, various weather websites). Been through the aftermath of several tropical storms and hurricanes, snowmegeddon, and thunderstorms that dropped incredible amounts of rain and caused flooding.
Just try to do what can to be as prepared as possible, knowing we can't prep for everthing a disaster will throw at us.

(13,333 posts)witnessing my first Blue Light Special. I was 12-13 and never before seen adults act like hyenas fighting over a buffalo carcass.at the water hole. There was pushing and shoving, scratching and clawing, Screaming and shouting, moans and groans Might have been some biting, some punches, ripped clothes, shelf climbing as if it was an obstacle. It was quite the spectacle.
Great times.
