Key Florida Democrats will oppose the removal of David Hogg as Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC).
A release from the Florida Democratic Party announced that eight delegates to the DNC representing Florida, including FDP Chair Nikki Fried, intend to vote against resolutions removing both Hogg and Malcolm Kenyatta of Pennsylvania, who both won Vice Chair posts in February.
The results of the DNC Vice Chair elections were clear, and the will of the voters should be respected, Fried said.
The Democratic National Committee has been in desperate need of young, innovative leadership, and David and Malcolm have worked to meet that need since day one. Tossing them out of office is unfair to them and an insult to the members they inspired to vote for them members who adopted these rules themselves. A majority of Floridas delegation will vote no on this resolution. We have work to do, and this isnt it.

(6 posts)please don't dump David Hogg........he's a bright new strength in the Democratic Party. I'm 79 and have been a dem and a progressive my whole voting life. we have a lot of talent in the Democratic Party...many of them very young....we should not be stifling them. the DNC is too hidebound. our party will be the better for it if excitement and intent in our primaries are encouraged and helped, not stifled or stiffed.
it seems the easiest and wisest course would be to expand the vice chairs to include ms. Free an indigenous voice we also must hear and heed.
keep at it David.......we are watching and applauding.

(16,609 posts)and come to grips with reality. No matter how they spin this, the proposal to remove Hogg looks like what it probably is: if you cant silence them, delete em.
I stopped giving to DNC some years ago. May have to extend that to the DCCC and DSCC
the DNC needs to get the message.

(1,713 posts)adding one vice chair to allow for the woman with the most votes to be added on. That would correct the problem without removing Hogg or Kenyatta. Removing either of them is going to cause bad blood we don't need.
It would be far easier for the DNC to simply add on a vice chair position this one time then run the elections correctly going forward, keeping Hogg and Kenyatta, then to get rid of either of them, and risk all the fallout that will happen if they remove one of them. I do not picture Hogg as the type that just quietly walks away. Why are we borrowing this sort of trouble? Add the woman on who got missed due to the DNC's screwup and let's move on. This is making Ken Martin look ridiculous.
