"This is a drastic escalation and dangerous new front in Trump's authoritarian campaign of trying to bully, intimidate, and impeach judges who won't follow his dictates. We must do whatever we can to defend the independent judiciary in America."

(33,677 posts)eventually it seems the dictator/tyrants get run out of town, but when? Why? How? Feels like if they loot the government of all they can, they'll leave. But they aren't like normal thieves.

(33,677 posts)through history of empires becoming and failing. For some reason this feels like a hostile take-over with the intent of destruction. Like corporations do to build monopolies. Don't know what would be left for them to want to stay. The military has to be the holy grail, and who knows what's been going on there.

(943 posts)I could fall into either of two traps.
The dismal trap is a rabbit hole which leads past the Stanford experiment and Kent State all the way to Mai Lai and worse.
The more dangerous trap is to think that they are all Opie from Mayberry.

(132 posts)We must make speeches, and slowly watch russia overthrow our democracy. We literally have another nation spending billions to pump in propaganda. Blackmail and buy our politicians and we cant even get our leaders to say we are at WAR with another nation. We are too scared to say out loud what is happening. Until someone has the guts to call a pot a pot, we are going to continue to lose this seditious war.

(3,555 posts)Off the top of my head, they include AOC, Chris Murphy, Jamie Raskin, Bernie Sanders (I know, but he caucuses with Dems), Maxwell Frost, President Obama, Tim Walz, Chris Van Hollen, Jasmine Crockett and many others.
The problem is that we don't have our own media system amplifying their statements and individuals who have assigned themselves the jobs of doing so easier. Unlike the right-wing media and their followers.
So we hear what Dems say far less often than we hear what Republicans are saying. We are losing the messaging war. We are outgunned by a factor of 1000+.

(12,346 posts)They don't want parties to not come to court when required. However, there is usually no law against it. If there is a state law, it would be preempted by federal law.
Law enforcement, state or federal, would do well to not make arrests or serve process on parties coming or going from a court hearing. Judges have long memories and will find some way to make their displeasure known.
Charging a judge is an unnecessary overreach and may have consequences.

So much for justice and the rule of law.
A dick tater like pedo Trump doesn't need a judiciary since he's the law. Only the dick tater knows what the law really means....

(11,162 posts)...that turned courtrooms in an ICE playgrounds.
https://www.ice.gov/doclib/foia/policy/11072.3_CivilImmEnfActionsCourthouses_01.21.2025.pdf
Allowing ICE to take people into custody who are simply appearing in court as part of a civil matter, criminal matter, or a check in or adjudication of a case related to an asylum petition should be appalling to anyone who believes in the rule of law. Implicit in that belief is the principle that all incentives should be in favor of encouraging people to comply with the law. If you claim to believe in the rule of law but are in favor of forcing people into a catch 22 of following the law and appearing and risking being unlawfully sent to a foriegn prison for life or violating an appearance order, then I submit you really don't care about the rule of law.
Turning courthouses into ICE playgrounds is appalling. Period. I hope this case results in an injunction on the conduct.

(1,279 posts)...had street clothes on, served no papers, and did not say who they were.
The real question is, why aren't court guards shooting these kidnappers?
Because in a number of cases around the country, it turns out that people claiming to be ICE were not ICE, but ordinary rapists, thieves, and kidnappers.
Why can't a courthouse guard, or, on the street, an upstanding bystander, try to stop a crime in process??
