(3,167 posts)It's why a lot of people - Younger generations especially - on social media are chanting "Fuck Boomers and their stock market!" right now. A lot of people have abandoned hope, and embraced revenge.

(3,167 posts)I've got a few friends who have cut ties with the parents due to their political alignment, so... Something tells me that the younger generations are perfectly content to let their elders enjoy the fruits of the world they built.

(3,167 posts)To be willing to cut off their elderly relations, for anything.
Cutting people off for their political ideology - Something that many people here talk about doing rather often - is just the easiest to point to example.
And boy, it's an example that we can very easily justify. They're Republicans, Trump supporters. They deserve to be cut off. They deserve to be punished. And when they claim that they're suffering? To bad, so sad, they deserve it.
The problem though? The people who are cheering on the stock market crash, and the pain and suffering it will cause Boomers? They've justified it too. They stole our future. We can't afford houses because of them. They ruined the environment. *Insert the unending list of grievances the younger generations have with Boomers here* They deserve to be punished. And when they claim that they're going to be suffering? To bad, so sad, they deserve it.
It doesn't matter if people think their reasons for cutting someone off are justified. What matters is that the person doing the cutting has justified the choice to themselves.

(66,055 posts)Now it's all over the internet too.
I remember my dad started listening to AM radio talk shows back in the 90s. He changed from being a moderately progressive mostly-Democrat to someone unrecognizable. He'd never been racist and suddenly he was saying terrible things. Also, I noticed the inter generational anger. He was in his 50s but suddenly it was "the selfish complaining old people" and "the lazy clueless young people."
It's been 40 years of this propaganda and it worked. It's turned us against one another and against the world.

Much effort to get people not to notice actual policies, history, reality. As if words are more important than deeds. Trump/Republicans say all the right words, fabulous messaging, the best promises, oh they're so concerned about the working class and carefully listen and pay attention to them, it's the Ignoring Democrats ruining everything with all their elite wrong words.
Such a stupid story.

to appeal to young male voters who Trump and Vance catered to by convincing them that it wasnt folks like them, but immigrants and woke people like Harris are taking all the opportunities. I remember looking up MMA videos, and you would inevitably get some right wing leaning videos recommended. But hey, if some progressive thinks he has a magic message that will overcome the social media giant algorithms, then maybe we are saved.

(83,725 posts)But the election post-mortens showed that voters interpreted it differently. They were unhappy and wanted change. I think that's why the "dictator" numbers were so high with the younger groups. They want to see anything other than stagnation happen.
I also think the "not going back"/MAGA stuff is interpreted differently by different people. MAGA wants to go back to a time that didn't really exist, and the conditions that created that non-existent time also don't exist currently. The "not going back" crowd, of which I was a member, were thinking about a time before Roe and before the civil rights act.
The MAGA crowd may get their wish. They are creating 1930 all over again. If that's the case, there are 15 painful years to go.

Working class is a misnomer in the US. What people mean are blue collar workers. Most cannot be reasoned with because they are made up of sexist, racist white males. MRAs are a real problem.

(44 posts)I live in a swing state and got plenty of ads from both campaigns and I never saw Kamala ad that advocated for higher wages or paid sick or family leave. It's very obvious the plan was to go after disaffected Republicans instead of policies accepted by a large majority of Americans. Democrats are running campaigns like it's 2004.
Too many scripted interviews and events.
