“Yesterday, President Trump and RFK Jr. announced a major reorganization of the Department of Health and Human Services. Long story short—they may as well be renaming it the Department of Disease. Because their plan is putting lives in serious jeopardy. They want to push out 20,000 public health workers, cut essential programs willy nilly, and undermine medical research, health care access, public health, and more—with no concern whatsoever for the fact they are putting this country on a dangerous collision course,” said Senator Murray. “There’s no two ways about it—this is the kind of carelessness that gets people killed. Maybe it doesn’t seem like such a big deal if you are a billionaire like Trump or Elon Musk, whatever happens, they will be able to afford whatever health care they need. But folks back here in Washington state—they are the ones who are going to be left picking up the pieces of the health department Trump is smashing to bits.”

10,000 layoffs; one-quarter of all staff; $11B cut.
There's not been much transparency into what programs & services have been cut by Health & Human Services (HHS). I don't think even RFKjr knows what's been removed.

🔹OSHA inspections for mine safety was cut entirely
🔹Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program was ended leaving people without heat/AC
🔹Meals On Wheels - 40% of staff were cut leaving sick & elderly without food
🔹Poultry & Produce program that supplies food to 1000's of food banks across the nation was eliminated, it also affects farmers
🔹Vessel Sanitation Program that inspects cruise ships for public health issues & shares info on outbreaks, was eliminated
🔹170 workers were cut from the FDA's Office of Inspections & Investigations
🔹Top 2 experts on Bird Flu were fired
🔹Top expert on food toxins was fired

*RFKjr announced that the program to monitor lead poisoning in kids was reinstated, but multiple CDC officials said they had, so far, not heard of plans to reinstate the program. Kennedy claims it was "always the plan to do 80% cuts, but 20% of those are going to have to be reinstalled because we’ll make mistakes.”

It's not clear which programs & experts have been cut. We need a complete accounting of exactly what Musk, Trump & RFKjr have done & the risks it poses to our health & safety.
