We're going to a ZZ Top concert at the Flint Capitol Theater tonight. I thought it was just me, my bro, nephew, niece and spouses. NOPE. Turns out that at two others (niece's father in law and his best friend) are going to be with us, too. I know for a fact that FIL is a big mouthed MAGAt and I'm guessing his friend will be, too. I've taken a Klonopin, in advance, so it should be kicked in by the time we meet up. I was planning on picking up the tab for dinner, but not now.
One the bright side, my family, both blood and by marriage, understand my mental health struggles and are VERY protective of me. I just need to get through dinner and then I can ignore them at the concert.
Naturally I will report back as to how it went.
Also planning to go to the Women's Rally in Lansing, MI on Saturday.

I hope you guys can get a long table, in a noisy restaurant and you can sit at the opposite end of the table from the maga's. Glad you took the Klonopin.
Let us know how things go. I hope you have a really fun time at the ZZ Top, concert. ZZ Top? Wow, that takes me back to my high school and college years. Take care, Sending good vibes your way, Siwsan.

(27,656 posts)I saw ZZTop in the Houston Astrodome some 40+ years ago with the Rolling Stones. Imagine that!
The Butterfield Blues Band also played that concert. I saw them at the Newport Folk Festival 1965 and there they were, opening act for ZZ Top and Rolling Stones.. wow!
I'm still amazed I've lived this long!

(1 post)in the course of an evening with my MAGA parents. (I don't mix the Klonopin and alcohol, if I did, I'm sure I could sell tickets though.)
Best to you and sending positive vibes.

Deep Purple headlined. They were at the peak of their power, and their set closely matched their Made in Japan double live LP.

(7,580 posts)But they are very popular with that crowd. They love the entire presentation... sexy females (from the videos), rock songs with a beat, and party atmosphere.
Depending on the venue, it could be a real redneck-fest. Too bad, as music should not have things assigned to it that were not meant to be there in the first place.

(27,502 posts)I figured there would be a lot of MAGAts at the concert but, honestly, it was the music that was important. Everyone was on a really positive vibe.
Enjoy ZZ Top, ignore the MAGA ignoramuses as best you can, and CELEBRATE with lots and lots of other women at the Michigan rally! Hope it's a massive success!

(27,502 posts)The concert was sold out and ZZ Top didn't disappoint.
Politics never even came up.
One of the reasons I was concerned is, way back in the day when Bill Clinton was in the White House, I went out to dinner with my family and my sister's father in law. His thinking was beyond anything MAGA thinks. During the dinner he pretty much did his best to LOUDLY humiliate me for my political beliefs. He even asked the waitress if she was one of those idiots who voted for Clinton. This guy was a real piece of work. He slept with his sister in law and abandoned his kids (my BIL was just 4). He got back in touch after my sister got engaged to his son.
I was in tears and the only one who seemed to have my back was my sister. I think everyone was afraid of what he would do or say if they called him out for disrespecting me. I saw him just one more time before he died, and that time I stood up for myself. He was most displeased.
