I would take statements of "feeling safer" or "admissions of guilt" from people living in El Salvador with a huge grain of salt as they're ruled by an authoritarian government with little to no regard for human or civil rights. The people in El Salvador are no more free to express themselves than protesting Russians being arrested in Moscow for holding up blank sheets of paper.
