Tesla reported that it delivered 336,681 cars in the quarter, compared to 386,810 in the first three months of last year. The Wednesday data represented the companys worst sales in nearly three years, a drop of 50,000 vehicles from a year ago.
Tesla has faced protests outside its showrooms from those opposed to the actions of Musk in one of his other roles as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency, and the policies of President Donald Trump.
There have also been instances of vandalism against Tesla facilities, including its charging stations, as well as some cars. All these incidents may have discouraged some potential Tesla buyers from going ahead with their purchases.

(1,263 posts)my gut tells me 13% is way too low. But the fact remains that most sources are in fact reporting a 13% decrease, including Reuters which I think is a very reliable source:

Is it probably that the 13% is a cooked #? Absolutely.

(16,733 posts)They just released the new Model Y... people stopped buying the Y because a new model was coming out.
China has record setting orders for the new Model Y "Juniper" so I'd expect that to pad the bottom line for TSLA in Q2 (they just released it here too)
Most people aren't going to let politics dictate car choice.

(27,007 posts)My buddy just did the same two weeks ago and agrees. He calls it a real car that you dont have to worry about blowing a tire on a pothole. It definitely rides nicer.
Im happy he traded because he parks his car in my driveway when he travels and hes going to be gone for a month. I was joking at first when I said he had to get a camouflage cover for the car
but I dont know now. Im glad that resolved.
Yesterday my buddy told me his realtor drove his Equinox and now he wants one. The realtors Tesla is paid off but he says he just cant be seen in it anymore - Chicago north side with, I think, a big LGBT clientele base.
The Tesla was great when it was ahead of the game. Now not so much. I do kind of miss how super fast it was but that can get you in trouble. The Chevy App leaves a LOT to be desired. But the Tesla interior was falling apart.
I guess I can live without the fart noises the Tesla makes. Especially since we programmed my buddys car to do it when he first bought his
unbeknownst to him.
Ill tell anyone to take a look at the Equinox. That free $7500 is a nice incentive.

(11,511 posts)GM, Ford, Kia, Hyundai, VW, Honda all offer good alternatives that won't break the bank.
I chose a VW ID.4 for my EV a while back. It's been terrific.

(72,149 posts)A P/E of 120?
A market cap that is 8.8x assets (and their assets include about $6 billion in intangible assets, so that factor is higher)?
The cap is 9x revenues.
And, competitors are gaining ground in virtually ever segment of their products.
The answer to your question is "because".
It's way overvalued based upon some "pitential" based on promises on innovation they've been making fie 7 or 8 years, and the big investors don't want to shed substantial fractions of their holding because it could trigger a sell-off.
If it makes you feel better, the stick price is down twenty-five & a half percent YTD. At least that makes some sense.
