I wonder how many people are receiving threats.

Professionals who speak the truth are going to be hated by this administration. It could be for telling the truth about fascism, about measles, about security breaches, about climate change. This administration does not want to hear the truth about anything. They are taking great pains to erase women and non-whites from history.

I do not wish for anyone to leave. I don't think its an easy thing to do. But this country is becoming a shambles. I cannot blame anyone for wanting to protect themselves and their families. I don't think people are going to announce that they are being threatened... they are just going to go.

I was talking with my older daughter, who now lives in Europe with her husband and baby. She noted that the administration wants to -- and clearly is -- creating an atmosphere where all good people are afraid. They will not move back to the US while the felon is in office, and the threats of violence are so great. My son-in-law is from a country where people believe in things such as health care, education, and being happy. I think my younger daughter may move there, as she has looked into taking a teaching position.

I am happy for them, though I know it sucks when our country loses good people. But I think of how it is the opposite of when my grandfather's sisters and aunts came here to escape the suffering in their country.

is moving to Canada. He was interviewed this morning on a great Canadian program called The Current, and I realized that as sad as I am that he and Timothy Snyder are moving, they will be able to keep speaking out, as Jason Stanley did this morning. He pulled no punches, declaring the U.S. fascist and Columbia University "not even qualifying as a university anymore--it is a collection of buildings."

The next two I am worried about (or wondering about) are Anne Applebaum and Ruth Ben-Ghiat. I think Applebaum has triple citizenship (Poland and the UK).

It is getting lonely--these four people have been my guiding lights over the last eight years.

Now Elon Musk is trying to shame one of my senators, Mark Kelly, for visiting Ukraine in a show of support. Musk calls him a "traitor," probably trying to elicit the kinds of threats you are talking about. So I wrote to him and just lent my support.

I hope that for every negative comment or threat the courageous people get, they receive positive feedback, letters of great affection and support.
