I only need one answer.

Since November 5, I have cut back any or most all interaction with the Trumpers in my life.
Basically the only Trumpers I choose to speak with at all are family members and that’s just on a limited need to know basis.
I’ve just decided that they are people that don’t share my basic values and I’m too old and life is too short to waste on people like that.

Now when I meet someone new in a social situation that wants to become part of my social circle, I say this:
‘‘Before I waste either your time or mine in possibly starting a friendship, I have one question to ask you, who did you vote for President in 2024?”

If they say Trump, then I thank them for their answer and tell them that we’re just not a good match for friendship because our values are so different.

If they say Harris, then I smile and ask them if I can buy them a coffee.

This is so different for the way I was pre Trump. Before him, I had many Republican friends and acquaintances. But Trump has changed that for me. I just can’t deal with them any longer. My social circle is much smaller but so is my stress level.
Anybody else feel this way?

You might start there.

That’s where I found new friends after we moved.

I live among Trumpers and I learned not to debate them, but I do give them zingers that don't require a response.

Like when I told the Magat lady at the grocery store looking at eggs, "It looks like they still have the Biden price on eggs." She could only answer, "smart ass."

It is about morality and decency. The whole world knows who and what Donald Trump is.

I cut some people a bit of slack in 2016 as a lot of people didn't really know that much about him and I think they confused a presidential election with voting for an American Idol. But hey, eight years later, there is absolutely no doubt as to who he is and voting for him is a reflection on the voter; that is not the kind of person I want in my life ever.

This isn’t about politics at all. But if you’re willing to still follow him after the last 8 years, I’ve got nothing for you. Impeached twice, arrested 4 times, found guilty of 34 FELONIES, and found guilty of sexual assault. That tells me everything I need to know about you. I’m done.

If people had supported GW Bush or Mitt Romney, I would have vehemently disagreed with them, but I usually could find some other common ground. Their preferences were political, not a reflection of their morality.

But Trump? Would they vote for Stalin or Mussolini or Hitler? I know they hate Hitler references, but there are plenty of evil dictators to choose from.

Now I can look back and see these are the same people who on some level were always racist, xenophobic, misogynistic, etc. All the signs were there that someday they could knowingly vote for a monster without apology or remorse. They were just waiting for permission to openly be who they already were.

My younger sibling has been a christofascist since he traded his several addictions and adultery for tent-meetin' demigogeury and The Smug. We emerged from the same womb and couldn't be more different. Religious Gangs Are The Worst. If you died violently it was most likely at the hands of a True Believer. Poo Tee Weet!

No choice. Anything less sets you up for abuse.

Abuse is the problem, in my opinion, not "differing political views." I listened to Republicans yammering for years. But when they went MAGA they turned abusive. Abuse is what MAGA is all about, it is what drives it, it is the core. There isn't any "political philosophy." There isn't anything to debate or discuss.
