Obviously, I'm not going to be buying from Bozo's store, but now I do not want to include Target. Looking at basic clothing and similar items. Walmart is not a better option. Costco would be great, but they are generally hit or miss. Would love a place that has bricks and mortar frontages, but will support Online.

For anything made with plastic, like leggings for example, I do ebay and buy second hand. Most of the time you can get things with the tags still on that were headed for a landfill.
LL Bean is another place. Brick and mortar around here, and a good online presence.
My sister swears by Old Navy and Kohls, but I never have much luck with them.
Will definitely be checking those out.

(1,289 posts)I work for them. Family owned, have maintained their DEIA programs.
For clothing Id say our quality is better than Target, and prices are same or better. Decent sales.
Our design team is very talented.
Same with soft home decor.
The Fredericks label for foods is quite good too.
They dont have a good online presence yet, but theyre working on it.
The loyalty points program is also nice.

(1,289 posts)With apparel and home textiles, where I am, we really try to make a much better quality product, for a reasonable price. Especially fabrics. We dont have the leverage with vendors/unit buys a bigger brand like Walmart or Target has. But we manage to get nice qualities.

(26,606 posts)Was it print-on-demand?
Polybius
(21,566 posts)Someone asked him if he sells directly, and he said no. It's pretty niche, likely with a very small release.
Polybius
(21,566 posts)It was just released a week or two ago, and my guess is that he printed 1,000 copies tops. It's not a major release.
Why would I want to punish myself for a $20-something book? Bezos is worth $150 billion, and Amazon get a profit of like $5 or less from that sale. It won't hurt him if I don't buy it, only me.

(17,211 posts)If we are not at a place that demands some sort of personal sacrifice, this country is lost.
I remember reading about a "great" country, whose people once rationed meat, dairy, textiles, candy and paper to defeat fascism.
I remember reading about a "great" country that once held scrap metal and paper drives to defeat fascism.
I remember reading about a "great" country that didn't elevate rapists and felons to lead the "free" world.
I remember reading about a "great" country that has a press corps that would write scathing, factual, investigative reports about political corruption, violent racism and political criminality.
I guess that country is dead, and has been replaced by a nation of quislings, who can't even stop using a Nazis social media site, even after that Nazi gave a Nazi salute.
My advice to all, if you're wondering where to buy clothes without supporting fascism, is to learn to sew.
The way things are going, it's a skill you will need, either out of choice, or necessity.
senseandsensibility
(24,289 posts)but I agree with your premise about buying less. I don't need to sew my own clothes because I have plenty and have updated recently. I'll just wear them forever if I need to or buy very sparingly. And I am definitely going to seriously consider every purchase I make. I think that's a good policy for many reasons.

to buy stuff to sew your own clothes - fabric, patterns, thread, buttons/snaps/zippers, etc.! (Disclaimer - I'm in the middle of sewing a dress from fabric I bought 20 years ago!)

I buy a lot of my clothes from a store based in Germany.
Your order arrives quickly, believe it or not!
The name of the store is CALIDA.
www.calida.com is their website and worth keeping an eye on as they have sales that are quite good.
I bought four sets of pajamas at EU 40.
Definitely better than buying here in the USA as Calida products are sold here as well.
to Calida!

(22,118 posts)Great things for men and women both!
Like I said, keep an eye open for the sales and stock up enough to get free shipping (that's what I do).
I have underwear that is as much as 10+ years old and I bought a fine 100% cotton robe that will last me forever.
https://www.calida.com/en-gb/p/bathrobe-p-61302-339-s/
This is the robe but in a size x-small only it seems. It does run large however and a steal for only EU 59.50 !
Well worth the price you pay, esp. if you buy during sales (subscribe!).
You cannot beat Swiss cotton.

(1,182 posts)Buying nothing but necessities as long as this coup and the orange turd persist. No trips, no eating out, not new clothes or shoes, no gadgets, no unnecessary subscriptions, limit unnecessary driving, nothing except food and health necessities. Yes, it may hurt some good people but its one way we can have an effect.

Copy/paste the URL. Then look at the URL and (1) Confirm it has a valid image (.gif, .jpg, .png) type of extension); (2) remove any excess things that might be appended to the URL after that extension. Should work.

Other than that I usually shop the brands online directly once I have my sizing accurate.

I learned recently that Lululemon carries mens clothing. But, ouch! A pair of joggers and a hoodie cost me over $240. Ill go back to Target or Sams Club for that kind of stuff in the future.

(18,690 posts)This had been my plan exactly. My policy was basically, if it's not food or something I used daily (e.g. toothpaste, my dog's needs, although these were all among the things I stockpiled so probably won't need for at least four to six months), it's not coming in the house for the foreseeable future.
Now, basically, I panicked and began to do a little last minute ordering. So that's on me.
My ordering should be complete by the middle of next week and I can probably go a year just ordering the very basics of fresh food (food you can't store), my dog's prescription diet and medication, and any emergency that comes up.
Mike 03
(18,690 posts)where I'm trying to reduce my reliance on Amazon. So Costco does deliver to a lot of places. My brother and law and sister practically live on Costco deliveries. I have a very high opinion of them because they have confronted T directly and are maintaining their DEI policies (and are courageous).
When there is something I want to purchase, I'm either ordering directly from the producer and paying more and just accepting that and justifying it on the basis that I've cut discretionary spending quite a bit. So some examples would be:
Books - (my biggie) order from the publisher or a niche bookstore that specializes in the topic I'm studying.
Canned food/bulk foods - Directly order from Wild Planet, Azure cooperative, Natural Catch, Mex Grocer. Your stores will depend on what you're ordering, of course. You pay more but you get much better delivery--faster, more securely packaged.
Health related. This is easy because there are some fantastic online stores that have enormous inventory of almost any brand you can imagine. Blue Sky Vitamin is a favorite. Diverse Health Services. Vitacost is another. Sometimes you actually find better prices and these stores have many sales, deals, etc... Nordic Naturals is another direct to consumer brand (mostly vitamins, fish oil, etc..) Viva Naturals is another. Almond butter was something I stocked up on too, which I order directly from the family owned business in California.
Your stores will depend on your preferences.
I still do use Walmart for home delivery, about twice a month. Some things I won't be able to change right off the bat due to living in a somewhat rural area.
Good luck.

(230 posts)Although it's a bit pricey, the regular Nordstrom has great sales that rival the cost of clothing from Amazon, Walmart, and Target. Better quality and free shipping and returns. They also have a no reason return policy. I've sent things back months later that didn't work out. They will also return makeup that is used. The Rack has cheaper clothes and sales too. Nordstrom still has brick and mortar stores but I am not close to one.

(34,015 posts)I also second Nordstrom's Rack, but I've had much better luck finding stuff at Penney's.
