Trans inmates?

I just heard about the "trans inmate" commercial. No, I'm not going to look it up I don't need to abuse myself. But I am curious, because I am a mathematically oriented person - how many trans-inmate cases actually exist?

of the population. I have no idea what the percentage of incarcerated might be trans.

It doesn’t really matter though, the Magas are just creeped out by the whole idea, and look for a weak vulnerable population they can bully. I mean, they made such a big deal about tampons in the boys’ room. I think they’re offended by the very idea and word of tampon.

What they say and what they believe are very different things. They probably watch a lot of trsns porn.

But they find it a very effective social war battle cry. Genetic men competing against women resonates with a lot of people as unfair, no matter how they feel about trans people themselves.

So no, they aren't throwing up in their mouths thinking about it. If anything, its giving them that certain feeling.

When we talk about "gender affirming care" for trans inmates though, you are talking about a wide range of things.

Some people who identify as transgender have chosen not to undertake gender affirming care for various reasons.

Some people take hormones regularly.

Some people go for gender reassignment surgery.

Many of the transgender inmates will have gone into prison having already had this. So there is probably a very small number of people who have long prison sentences or who didn't realise that they were transgender until they were in prison that a policy to enable reassignment surgery would affect.

And I think that should be dealt with on a case by case basis. In prison for six months for drugs? Doesn't make sense for the state to pay for a $20,000 surgery. In for life and suicidally depressed because of gender dysphoria? I think at some point the state has a duty of care for the people that it has decided to imprison.

Hormone therapy is not that expensive and I think prisoners should have access to it. Not having access forces them to go through reverse puberty which is a cruel and unusual punishment. You wouldn't tell diabetic prisoners that they can't have access to insulin because it's too expensive and lack of access to health care is part of their punishment.

SO out of 1.23M inmates MAYBE 4500 so less than 0.3%. Probably less than the 2,213 inmates on death row and certainly those seeking surgery are less than that? I'm assuming most of the 4500 are in therapy, less on hormones, less seeking surgery simply due to the process.

Of course, for MAGA even 1 is too many.

trans people" was especially vile and disgustingly bigoted. But it ran relentlessly in my locality and I'm sure it was effective among rube voters.

Like you, I think the number is really small, certainly not large enough for the slurs and distortions from trump supporters.

In any event, your post make me look up California. The Department of Corrections produced a very detailed report--

"As of Sept. 30, 2024, there were 2,107 incarcerated people identified as transgender, non-binary and intersex. (This number is based on incarcerated people who self-identify using the Gender Identity Questionnaire.) CDC created a report of the incarcerated population by gender identity. It can be found on CDC’s population reports web page."

https://www.cdcr.ca.gov/prea/sb-132-faqs/#:~:text=As%20of%20Sept.,incarcerated%20population%20by%20gender%20identity.

It appears there are about 100,000 inmates in California for perspective. (Don't think this includes local jails, but not sure).

Honestly, I don't care if it were 10 million, these kind of ads are disgusting and red meat for bigoted rubes.

All of his ads had lies and half truths. This one hit hard and harris did nothing to rebutt it. It ran non stop in Pennsylvania.

In fact they had a clip of her at some roundtable talking about prison gender stuff in one of the ads.

News flash, but there are a lot of people out there unconfortable about this type of stuff. The muddy middle, non political types. Its one reason why the whole moms for liberty and school board drama is happening. Is it right? Hell no. But by embracing these positions our leaders need to make it clear what they suppprt and why they support it.

We let trump define it with these ads and the muddy middle thinks harris is using all our tax money on gender changes. Didnt help to have two black guys bashing it on thier podcast.
