A Black man found dead at an abandoned house in Colbert County last month had earlier this year filed a federal lawsuit against Sheffield police officers alleging police brutality.

Dennoriss Richardson, 39, of Sheffield, was found hanging by a rope on Sept. 28, said civil rights attorney Roderick Van Daniel, who represented Richardson in the federal lawsuit.

Van Daniel has called for a federal investigation of what he says is a suspicious death.

Black man found hanging had sued Alabama police for brutality: ‘It’s not a suicide,’ widow says

U.S. Attorney Prim Escalona said she was not familiar with the case. “We can’t deny or confirm the existence of any investigation,” said FBI Public Affairs Specialist Toni Herrera-Bast.

Colbert County Sheriff Eric Balentine said his office has investigated and ruled the death a suicide.

to count. Thanks to Trump, ante-bellum and Jim Crow are back.

It's discouraging to realize that though we had come so far, human nature doesn't change. There are dormant lynchers and Nazis waiting for a Trump ignorant, and brazen enough to given them permission to express, at a time where people feel beaten down enough to seek hate as a salve for their difficulties.

I always hated 'Sweet Home Alabama' after my mother taught me about George Wallace....

(yeah, he may have tried to clean himself up before his end,
but the damage he did earlier.... some things can't be fixed)

great grandfather was lynched in 1932, in NC for the farm he his siblings and his formerly enslaved parents, (I just found out that my paternal great grandmother was an REAL Cherokee indigenous woman), which explains why my Grandpa Sam had the features he had. In my GGrandpa's case, he was run down by a car IN FRONT OF HIS 9 YEAR OLD SON, HIS CHILD, (it was on purpose by a white man who wanted his land & had asked several times to buy at a low ball cost.) To be honest, GGrandpa would NEVER have sold it because that land was a legacy that his parents who worked hard to buy and GGrandpa had promised his parents that he'd NEVER sell it. For that, he was basically crushed beneath the wheels of a car because he wouldn't sell the land he worked so hard to take care of his family and his bread & butter.

Yes, lynching NEVER stopped. It just became sophisticated and underground.

To the loved ones, I am so sorry, for your loss, my heart goes out to you. This should not be happening in the USA 2024 or ever.
The DOJ needs to investigate.
