Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin warned their Israeli counterparts in a letter dated Sunday that the changes must occur. The letter, which restates U.S. policy toward humanitarian aid and arms transfers, was sent amid deteriorating conditions in northern Gaza and an Israeli airstrike on a hospital tent site in central Gaza that killed at least four people and burned others.
A similar letter that Blinken sent to Israeli officials in April led to more humanitarian assistance getting to the Palestinian territory, State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said Tuesday. But that has not lasted.
In fact, its fallen by over 50% from where it was at its peak, Miller said at a briefing. Blinken and Austin thought it was appropriate to make clear to the government of Israel that there are changes that they need to make again, to see that the level of assistance making it into Gaza comes back up from the very, very low levels that it is at today.

What makes you think the US would be welcomed in Gaza and the West Bank?

(2,570 posts)there would be negotiations with relevant parties. But I dont doubt that even Hamas would acknowledge that at this point Gaza is a de facto failed state. If we offered to put a pair of vice grips on Netanyahus balls, deliver aid, and start reconstruction, Hamas would listen.
Besides, it would be fun to listen to Netanyahu squeal.

(2,570 posts)You work with allies in Europe to set up sanctions against Israel. Obviously, the American public would not support a military intervention. Thats rhetorical bluster on my part because Im disgusted with whats going on and Bidens policy on this is a disgrace.
Whats your solution? Let Israel finish the genocide so Jared Kushner can go in and turn it into La Riviera du Levant and build some tasteful casinos?

(20,670 posts)My solution is for there to be a ceasefire than involves unconditional release of all hostages, living and dead. Israel can hold elections to hopefully remove Likud from power. Control of Gaza can return to the Palestinian authority; let them fight it out with Hamas.
