Trump's obvious, long-standing weirdness now protects him. When he goes off the rails the media roll their eyes and say, "Well, that's just Trump." Joe Biden has never been weird; he's always been about as normal and sane as a person can be, and his age hasn't made him less normal even if it's slowed him down. So if Biden had just stood on a stage and fake-danced for 39 minutes it would be shocking, and the media would demand his immediate resignation. When Trump did it, it was regarded as just more of Trump - even though by now he's well beyond merely weird and is clearly completely mad. Some of the media are starting to get it, but Trump won't go away; demented as he is, he's now Vance's convenient Trojan horse - which is just as scary.

4. No one would have ever expected Biden to do that.

Trump, on the other hand, is capable of pretty much anything. He's been doing the goofy dance moves for a very long time, though not for 40 minutes straight, of course.

I'm actually more surprised at the reaction than that he did it in the first place. Are people really as surprised as they claim? I'm not surprised in the least. Or shocked or dismayed or terrified or whatever else.

They would have been breaking into your regularly scheduled program with an emergency broadcast. Congress would be holding a special session to remove Biden from office as we sit here.
