ebraska native Tim Walz will return to his home state for a campaign event Saturday, marking his second trip to the Omaha are after being picked to run for vice president by Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris, the campaign said Sunday.

Walz, the governor of Minnesota, was born in West Point and was raised in Valentine, Nebraska. He graduated from Butte High School and attended Chadron State College. Walz met his wife, Gwen, while he was teaching high school in Alliance, Nebraska. He taught there for six years before moving to Gwen’s home state of Minnesota.

He was last in the state in August for a rally at the Astro Theater in La Vista and has frequently mentioned his Nebraska roots on the campaign trail. Gwen Walz campaigned in Omaha earlier this month.

The planned Walz visit further cements the Omaha metro area as a key prize in the presidential race. Nebraska allocates some of its Electoral College votes by Congressional District and the state's 2nd District, which includes Omaha, is considered winnable for Democrats.

The Harris-Walz campaign did not release further information Sunday about the planned Oct. 19 visit.
