The Ferengi judge a person's success by how much profit they can amass. Something tells me they wouldn't think much of a guy who brags about being "really, really rich" but has had to file for bankruptcy 6 times.

One of the most bewildering trends that I've noticed is a certain strain of Fanboy whinging about recent iterations of Star Trek "knuckling under" to the "Woke Mind Set". Dude! Star Trek has always been "Woke", if by "Woke" you mean progressive.

I admit that I haven't watched any of the recent additions to the franchise and perhaps there are ways in which the story telling has been weakened in order to preach or reach a certain audience. But Bro-types getting their knickers in a twist and complaining about being ignored or even betrayed by the recent versions of Star Trek are very sad, indeed.

The only reason that the original series stayed within certain traditional paradigms when it aired was because Gene Roddenberry was trying to sell it to a 1960s era audience.

Oh, as for Musk the Billionaire and his little space opera fantasies, Star Trek envisioned a culture where material wealth was not lionized. In fact, the Ferengi culture was inserted into the canon as a way to ridicule conspicuous consumption and the acquisition of extraneous wealth--which is why the posted meme is just so apt.

Trump and Musk and Bro-culture trying to co-op Star Trek makes me angrier than the way that the Right has tried to lay claim to every visual expression of patriotism. I wouldn't mind wearing a Stars and Stripes t-shirt or something, but I don't want to look like Kid Rock.

That's one of the reasons I fell in love with the original series. Teenage me was absolutely entranced to see such a diverse group of people working together as a team of professionals. (Yes, the women were made to wear really stupid outfits and absurd hairstyles, but it was the 1960s, so what could you expect? )

And there are dudebros complaining Star Trek "knuckling under" to the "Woke Mind Set"? Good lord, talk about completely missing the point!

No, Elon would NOT enjoy Star Fleet Academy! He would be at a complete loss in a milieu where he had to earn respect through his own abilities, accomplishments, and hard work, instead of having everything handed to him on a silver platter.

No way, no how!

That crapper would be sent home naked to be supervised by his mother probably before he made it out of his teens.

Ferengi are fine with avarice and a good grift too but have much higher standards than the Republicans.

You have to actually produce the gold pressed latinum not just lie that you have a concept of a plan to bring home the bacon.

Next came Star Wars. An argument could be made for Stranger in a Strange Land being first... even religions have arisen based around the latter. But whereas Star Wars never glossed over evil and, in some ways, saw it triumph... Star Trek never lost the diversity and inclusivity that Roddenberry fought to include. Even the first interracial kiss! At a time when Desi and Lucy were still sleeping in separate beds. And tho we introduced what I call the "dark side" of Star Trek in the series Picard, and to some extent in
Discovery... Strange New Worlds is back to keeping with the original motif, IMO.

Elmo and friends have no business anywhere around Star Trek. They can't grok it (yes, I know!)... it's a totally alien concept to their internal life... and they'll never "get it" if they live to be 100!

. . . In crafting a story that was a futuristic re-telling of the Hero's Journey. With Star Wars, we see Luke's adventure (and that of other characters in the franchise) as essentially an individual story of transformation and redemption. (Even though they did get involved in war efforts.)

Star Trek is about the advancement of the human race in its entirety, and not just technologically, but socially and morally as well.

I have said this before -- along with my "Trump is the Anti-Mr. Rogers" observation, (because, dammitt, nobody seems to understand how wise I am !)-- but while Star Wars doubtless changed the entertainment industry; Star Trek arguably changed the world.

Color me a Trekkie every time.

I am so hard core it took me a while to get into the remakes for how much canon they threw away. Especially Spock meeting his older self. I do really like the streaming... but Gene's son is carrying on his dad's legacy.

There are quite a few of us diehard Trekkers who get together to share ideas, philosophies, etc. Wish u were closer... think you'd love the group! Many of them have been on ST Cruises. They keep trying to get me on the ship, but I'm poor! Lol...

By not having an in depth understanding of the source material.

He breezes right past the points made by the good doctor, like inclusivity and diversity and ethics and fast forwards to energy weapons and military structure and nubile female aliens or whatever else appeals to his id.

For the particular sort of Christian who swings hard Right, it's about control. The fact is, the world IS a scary place and nobody is in control but religion provides a framework for social cohesiveness as well as comforting platitudes about God being on his throne, etc. Religion helps people cope with some valid fears, again appealing to the id.

He didn't start out that way. When we were young he may have had conservative leanings but nothing like what he's become. Now he's fully off the deep end.

Of course, he hates the new Trek series cuz they are too woke. Blah blah blah.

Even in the Mirror Universe, where Star Fleet is, you know, evil, they still have diversity. Uhura and Sulu are still there as part of the bridge crew. This is probably because they realize that galactic conquest still requires brains and capability and you can't just give important jobs to people only because they look like you.
