Was former pres. Obama speaking to black men or to ALL men?

I’ve seen several clips and maybe I missed it, but I didn’t think he limited his remarks. Given that white men without college degrees as a group are the demographic most likely to support Trump (and we all know that there are many who do not), and they are a large group, it seems to me his comments should be heard by them.

For example see: https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2021/06/30/behind-bidens-2020-victory/

White women are the largest bloc in the electorate—more than 35%, and they are not a monolith. Other factors that I believe are at play:

—lower educational levels. This was shown to be a huge factor for both white non-Hispanic men and white women—much less so for other groups. Some of these voters think “well, Trump was President when the economy was “good”, so therefore Trump caused that and will do it again.” We know the problems with this argument. They are also less well informed about what has actually happened and what is being proposed than are people with higher levels of education.

—evangelical Protestant churches and anti-abortion Catholic and other churches. Pew’s research shows members of these groups vote more for Trump.

—rural vs suburban vs city

—fear, of their husbands’ disapproval or of what would happen to them if they were left behind. They mistakenly believe that Republicans care about them.

Many single women of all races and those without children do not vote at all, in part because they don’t feel politicians see them or propose policies to make their lives better. For example, many politicians aim their messages at “helping families” and their ads show them and their own families, even though a huge part of the electorate, maybe 40% is single.

So you have a diverse set of situations. A white female high school grad who is married, working part time, and is an active churchgoer living in a small town is very different from a single white female physician living in the city.

If we stop making excuses and looking the other way when they show us who they are by how they vote and interact with others maybe we can save our democracy. Many republican women are very well off and they despise poorer white women many of whom don’t vote. Just look at Florida and Texas.

Factor. There is a lot of research on this topic that you may want to check out.

White men should not be left off the hook. They vote more strongly for Trump than do their female counterparts. And, their white privilege is not offset by gender bias as it is with women. Why aren’t we talking about them and why many of them aren’t supporting Democrats, especially young white nen?

They have less to lose, the majority of white men in America will never go for equality. But I have hope that one day the majority of white women will see how many choices and freedoms they are losing and will join the rest of us. Young white men buy into the same bullshit older white men believe. Maybe it’s testosterone or training but they want to rule and believe it is their right.

but might be reluctant to support Harris.

He is less likely to have support among those white men.

It was not directed at black men - it was directed at all voters. And the picture which accompanies it shows mostly white women

Prior to the big speech he met with a small group of volunteers at a local campaign office where directed a few comments at black men.
