(105,653 posts)have had to grab it for fear I might "pith" myself (google it)... Yeah, that was how I was feeling. Granted I had a massive headache as well, but..
Still, I grabbed the pup and did my usual 3-4 mile walk/hike at the dog park and felt a bit better.
But, I am tense. It is unthinkable to consider the worst that could happen.

(33,208 posts)Not because of our stellar candidate - but because I believe there are a lot of Americans who are unAmerican and want a Dictatorship. They are fearful people who truly believe they, and they alone are true Americans. They are deliberately choosing CRUELTY.
They aren't brainwashed or snowed - they believe every single word that sick fuck utters.

(10,425 posts)The brainwashing predates the rise of Rush Limbaugh in the mid-80's, but that marks a turning point that was accelerated with the rise of FOX News in the early 90's.
Sure, maybe 25% of the nation could always be counted out as hardcore racist xenophobes who think "government" is an evil that needs to be destroyed. But the fact that DT has a floor of 46% is the result of the vast, far-right extremist, multibillion-dollar decentralized network that has been blasting a firehose of falsehoods for more than 40 years. It's talk radio (and more recently podcasters), think tanks, and other "influencers," with FOX News as the behemoth at the center.
I lost my mother-in-law to FOX News in the early 2000's when she moved to Florida and started watching what "everyone" watched: FOX News. A formerly active Democrat, highly-intelligent woman (passed the bar at a time when women were unicorns in the profession) started spouting the hateful propaganda. She never recovered.
People across this country have lost friends and family to the brainwashing. Formerly loving, kind people brainwashed into a set of beliefs that leave them alienated from any sense of connection to their own government and eager to utterly destroy hard-won programs and policies that have improved their lives and the lives of their fellow citizens; beliefs that leave them hating those of us who believe our government and public institutions are ours to shape and can be wielded for our collective benefit.
We need more documentaries like the one below; more attention on the stories of people indoctrinated into the far-right cult and the pain of those they leave behind; more stories from recovering extremists.
If we don't take this on as a nation and figure out how to reach and deprogram people, we will keep losing them to a cult that is on track to becoming a majority force.

(2,082 posts)trend with the numbers has be quite alarmed. I keep hoping this is just a temporary dip of some sort, but we are down to the wire here and things are looking more bleak as each day passes.
And I'm hopeful. The reason? I don't watch the news or follow the polls.
For most of my life I've been a political junkie. Followed candidates, issues, news about races. I had to give it up after January 6th. I cannot believe that the treasonous orange a$$hole could possibly win this election, or that it will be close enough for Republican controlled swing states to mess with the results enough to hand the election to him.
I believe people will turn out for this election in record numbers to vote for Harris.

It's been a horrible decade from Tea Party to MAGA. It makes me sick inside that my college-age daughters haven't seen a sane election cycle in their lifetimes. It's just a football game now to so many in our country. Just shameful.

(1,299 posts)2012 was close but all the swing state polls were pointing to an Obama victory, even when the national polls were showing a super close race. Like, go back and look at the Pennsylvania polls from October. On this date in 2012, Obama led Romney by an average of 4.5 points and 4.4 points in Michigan.
This election feels a lot like 2004 and I'm just hoping we're the Republicans this time around.
