People begging for update after 'legendary' man strapped down his entire house

in preparation for Hurricane Milton

Florida resident Pedro Casares strapped down his home ahead of Hurricane Milton hitting

Pedro Casares has been hailed as a 'Florida legend' for his unconventional way of making his home Hurricane-ready before the storm hit yesterday (Wednesday, October 10).

Hurricane Milton hit category five at its peak with experts warning of the life-threatening destruction it was likely to cause when it came to land. ...people have been calling for updates on Pedro Casares, who 9NEWS reported on ahead of the storm hitting. In the news report, Pedro proudly shows off the straps he attached to the roof of his home in Orlando in a bid to stop it blowing off during Hurricane Milton.

Pedro thought up the unique idea after he and his family endured a hurricane two decades ago in their home country of Puerto Rico. His daughter urged people to 'stay tuned' to see if her father's contraption worked or not - and people are doing just that. "To not follow up on this story after the hurricane would be journalistic malpractice," one person commented on YouTube.

There's more at the link, but there is no news on how well his idea worked. I'll keep searching and if I find anything tomorrow or this weekend, I'll post it.

I'm using the search term "Pedro Cesares" in case you would like to check, too.

a title along the lines of "it worked." Of course, in that same picture his neighbors' houses looked just fine too, without straps.

... no word on neighboring houses, either.

The straps weren't simply attached to his front lawn though; the hooks that held the straps down were eight feet deep with cement.

Taking to Twitter, CNN's Brian Able posted: "Update for those asking from Pedro’s daughter Raisa: 'We’re doing good just went outside our home just now to clean up and see if any damage (has) been done and nothing not even a shingle lifted but other than that just tiny damages nothing crazy.'"

He intends to leave the straps in place ... it's still hurricane season.

Thanks, Roj.

I’ve no doubt that at some point we’ll get the full story on damage in that neighborhood, thus allowing us to determine how effective his plan was.

In the meantime, however, he is a wonderful example of self efficacy.

They showed another person who had 2 feet of water outside their door and it wasn’t coming in. They have also come up with some plastic barriers that seem to have worked at Tampa General Hospital.
