My discussions with a Texas Republican - not what you think

On our current trip to Switzerland, my wife and I took a small group tour - two couples and a beautiful guide. The other couple are from TX. She’s a Democrat and he’s a Republican.

Not wanting to stir the hornets nest, I chose to avoid politics, but that horse don’t run too long.

He is a former military man. What was surprising is that he said he wouldn’t vote for Trump. I honestly believe that there are a lot of Republicans who do in fact realize that the Trump is fucking crazy.

We agreed on many things. Surprisingly he had compassion for immigrants, at which point I said he had the attribute of “woke”. We agreed on border security, the security of our country and many more issues. I agreed with some of his beliefs as well.

All I can surmise is that there are a lot of Republicans out there who know that TFG is a threat. He won’t vote for Harris but also won’t vote for Trump. We had a good long conversation and it left me with more hope than despair.

Forgive me if I don’t reply to follow-up comments as I’ll be on the road again tomorrow.

My husband is a Republican and military veteran but he said he can’t vote for Trump but he doesn’t want to vote for Harris. But even better he can’t stand Ted Cruz and will vote for Colin Allred. That’s a win in my book.

Couldn't you use your womanly charms to get him to vote for Harris?

Idk what the main issue is but he just doesn’t think a woman can really be president. I’ve told him look at all these successful women leaders of other countries but he’s like it’s not America though. lol.

He’s not political really and I am and we just leave that as is and not cause fights because of politics. My family is deep rooted in politics my grandpa was friends with daddy Bush. We just leave politics out of the main conversation of everyday life but this whole woman’s right and abortion issue and thinking about his daughters has really opened his eyes. Our daughters are all Dem all the way. He will come around eventually I just don’t push it cause then he closes off.

I'd be all - do you think I'm capable of being a leader? Do you think your daughters are capable of being leaders? Did we raise them to be leaders? What specifically makes us incapable of being leaders?

But I understand your silence - there are political issues I don't talk about with my spouse and we're on the same side!

I'll take the non-vote for Trump and the vote for Allred any day. If that's repeated by enough other TX Republicans, we'll have a decent shot at that seat.

In 20 he couldn’t vote for Biden but wouldn’t vote for Trump either.

He started out dem as a teen and after working at Pentagon became conservative. But once Trump came on the scene he has voted for the democrat. He says he has no morals and honor.
