1. Milei, a right-wing libertarian who on Sunday won almost 56% of the vote in the election's second round, has previously

said he would retreat from ties with countries including Russia, China and Brazil, citing disagreement with their governments' policies.

Milei has also expressed support for Ukraine in its conflict with Russia and has said he sees the United States and Israel as Argentina's main partners.

3. Prior to the election China was interested in constructing a military base in the Tierra del Fuego region.

This would have enabled China to monitor communications in the South Atlantic and Antarctica. However, with the encroachment of Chinese fishing vessels into the protected maritime waters of Argentina and Milei in charge those dreams have died.

It also says a lot that Chinese vessels are fishing off the coast of Argentina.

In spite of Milei’s anti-Russian stance, he’s still a clownish, extreme right winger with anti-democratic views. I think a serious, courageous statesman like Zelensky gains nothing by participating in Milei’s inauguration.
