(1,529 posts)Who are the Republican candidates to be US House Speaker?
((more background))
Nearly three weeks after Kevin McCarthy's ouster, the Republican party's fraught search for a Speaker of the House of Representatives continues.
(snip)
It is unclear who the party will now nominate for the position.
House Republicans will hear from nine new candidates at a closed-door forum on Monday evening, which is expected to be followed an internal conference vote on Tuesday.
A vote could follow on the House floor as early as the same day, although the eventual nominee may be given more time to garner votes among his colleagues in the fractured conference.

(8,103 posts)They're only gonna put up one for public consumption. It still doesn't seem promising. I hope we get some inside intel, just so we can chuckle at them. Need a good laugh.

(8,103 posts)I suppose I should care. I certainly want Hakeem to win, which so far he is. But, I admit it, I will get more satisfaction in watching the Dems top any one of these Repub retards then I will in the relief of finally having a SOTH. I don't know any of them, but I know the name of their game is to obstruct legislation and say no to aid packages. So, I might as well enjoy their humiliation while it lasts.
I do love the chart, however. I'll pop it up on the desktop during the vote. I am looking forward to the Dems cheering on Hakeem. I can't see how any one Repub candidate can win the required number. Should be interesting.

(2,008 posts)So only 2 of them accepted the election results.
A number of republicans will not vote for anyone who disputed the results.
A number of them will only vote for those who disputed the results.
They don't have the votes to elect a speaker, even with their majority.
The longer this drags on, the more likely some will end up working across the isle and actually vote for Jeffries. I haven't entertained that idea much, but it seems a possibility if a number of them get fed up with their own party. We only need 6 of them, in theory, to write in Jeffries name...I think there's a chance of that, as opposed to no chance in hell!
We really do need a functioning house of representatives, which is "controlled" by a dysfunctional majority.

There is no way to satisfy both camps. Each has a litmus test. You can't both fund and not fund the government, Israel, and uktaine.
They will all fall short.
