It now seems clear why Allen Weisselberg's testimony ended

https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/allen-weisselberg-perjury-testimony-rcna121195

Last week, Allen Weisselberg's testimony in the New York attorney general's civil fraud trial against Donald Trump, Weisselberg himself and others abruptly ended. And while the fact of that ending was easily observable, the why was not.

Some suggested it could have been because just hours earlier, Forbes, citing emails and reporters' notes, published a report accusing Weisselberg of lying on the stand. And earlier this week, I noted that while it's impossible to know, on the basis of publicly available information, whether Forbes is right, if Weisselberg gave knowingly false testimony, there could be consequences given his probation conditions.

For days, New York Attorney General Letitia James' team has been quiet about Weisselberg. But it broke its silence on Thursday morning with a letter that seems to confirm the Forbes report was indeed the reason the former Trump Organization CFO did not return to the witness stand after the lunch break on Oct. 12.

The veracity of Weisselberg's testimony is not the attorney general's chief concern right now, much less a stated concern at all.

The letter explained that during a sidebar — a conversation between counsel and the judge that the parties, witnesses and spectators are not meant to hear — the attorney general's office "asked for an opportunity to follow up on the Forbes article ... and its discussion of 'old emails and notes, some of which the attorney general's office does not possess.'"

It's all ill gotten gains.

Seize every penny, every car, every house, hell every outhouse and throw him in jail until he dies.

Throw his scuzzy daughter out and the grandkid too.

I am tired of them playing nicey, nicey.

Charge him with perjury and violate his ass out of his parole.

New York Attorney General Letitia James’ office suggested Thursday that the Trump Organization failed to produce evidence in the $250 million fraud trial of Donald Trump and his company, citing a recent report accusing a key witness of lying under oath.

The AG’s office said in a letter that it has “identified likely omissions” in documents produced by the defendants related to 2016 exchanges with Forbes Magazine about the value of Trump’s real estate assets.

That alleged failure “indicates a breakdown somewhere in the process,” an official from that office warned the judge who will deliver verdicts in the ongoing civil trial ...

Wallace, in his letter, proposed that an independent monitor conduct a forensic review of electronic data held by the Trump Organization from August to September 2016 ...

... The sides were called to the bench of New York Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron to discuss a letter sent by the AG's office to the judge that was made public earlier in the morning, the sources said.

In the letter, the state accused the Trump Organization of failing to turn over emails concerning Trump's triplex apartment. The emails should have been among the corporate records previously subpoenaed for by the AG, but were only newly brought to light as allegedly missing from the trial evidence.

The AG's side requested in the letter that the Trump Organization be ordered to submit to a search for the purportedly missing emails. Kise, the former president's lawyer, kicked off the sidebar by protesting that such a search would potentially derail the trial, the sources said ...

Kise then accused the AG's side of having an ulterior motive for pursuing the emails, even suggesting that the state was fishing for evidence it could use in examining Trump fixer-turned-foe Michael Cohen next week ...

…and not the NY AG? That’s a pretty big miss.

They could hammer Weisselberg and threaten him with prison time if he doesn’t turn on Trump.

Instead, he may get the cell next to his.
