Parking for Sphere events to cost as much as $125
When the doors open for the Spheres inaugural events U2s U2:UV Achtung Baby concert Friday and Oct. 6s Postcard from Earth film by Darren Aronofsky bring plenty of money for parking.
On-site parking at the Sphere through Ticketmaster is limited because the grounds are still a construction zone for mid-Novembers Formula One Las Vegas Gran Prix race.
However, theres still one lot on-site, just southeast of the building, with prices of $100 for U2 and $47.50 for Postcard. An adjacent valet lot will cost $125 for U2 and $72.50 for the film. Reservations are available through Ticketmaster.
Adjacent parking garages at the Howard Hughes Center will be open for Sphere events, according to Brandon Myers, general manager of LAZ Parking. Those garages have more than 2,000 spaces.

Who is able to pay these kinds of prices?
Are live events now only for the 1%?

(4,616 posts)a new reality. Vegas venues have been through the roof for quite a while now. Which is why I take uber and NEVER park.

(2,690 posts)Jeez. With ticket priced between $400+ and $1700+, I wonder how much the snacks cost?

(6,187 posts)25% sounds about right for most of the attendees. But, I bet the remaining 75% have known someone, perhaps it was even themselves, who overpaid for some ridiculous thing like that just once or once in a while as a special treat. But it's not the kind of thing we/they would or could do on a regular basis. On a few occasions my wife and I have spent a lot of money on club seats for sporting events to see a favorite team. People probably thought we had money, but it was a special occasion and we are otherwise frugal when it comes to spending on entertainment, and we don't take lavish trips and such. The sphere and Las Vegas in general will not see us anytime soon.
But, yes, I agree, events are ever more priced for the wealthy and not so much the average working person.

(31,309 posts)I often drive... because I like driving.
I park at the hotel where I am staying... in the "free" area.
And never even see my car again until it is time to leave. I will walk or take a taxi or Uber to go places.
Maybe once during the visit or so I will ( if I have friends with me ) drive up and down the strip... just for the experience.
Driving around Las Vegas is normally a nightmare.

Same with Taylor Swift. Huge amounts of money.
And we have a huge country star coming in, too.

(4,671 posts)Haven't been to a live event in Vegas for nearly two decades - Last visit, we attended Charo's Revew w/family members from CA who met us in Vegas for birthday celebrations. We got a small caberet-style table near the stage at the venue - took the Alladin's limosine, so cost: About $50 per ticket and tipped the driver well - they then picked us back up much later on Fremont Street, early in the morning. Driver said we "really knew how to have a good time."
Time before we went to the Nevada Star Ball (ballroom) competition at the Stardust - We treated our Latino in-laws, and again used our hotel's limo. My boss' wife, who owned a participating ballroom studio got us the tickets (somewhere between $20 - $60 ea. for evening finals) - and she gave us her table while she worked the room. Daughter's in-laws had never been to a ballroom competition - Really, it's pretty rowdy as you cheer on your favorites! Drinks were on the FIL, and we walked back to Treasure Island completely blitzed after stopping by the Frontier for additional sidewalk $0.99 marguaritas. Yikes, the kids were so embarrassed, LOL - heard us coming down the hallway. The kids didn't go - they went off to eat and celebrate daughter's 21st birthday - All had a grand evening!
The last rock concerts each of us attended locally were b-day gifted tickets: Fleetwood Mac for DH; Prince for me. Don't forget the high cost of souvenir tour t-shirts, Playbills, etc...Daugther #2 worked for the food service at The Shot's lodge boxes during college, so she saw parts of many more.
Yup, better days!

(149,924 posts)has never been affordable. Never. Vegas can be an affordable place to go, but great venues and casino properties are expensive and always have been.
U2 Is big name entertainment, and The Sphere just opened. If you want those, you'll have to pay up.
