We could have had 2 years of peace and quiet in Washington DC. If Democrats had just kept control the House. Instead American voters chose chaos over competence. All because the price of gas and groceries were high.
They can't say they weren't warned. House Republicans spelled out exactly what they were going to do if they took back power and had no plans to improve the economy or lower inflation.
If a half a dozen seats had flipped our way we wouldn't be having to endure one self inflicted economic crisis after another and endless sham hearings based on conspiracy theories.
And most importantly the House would be led ny Jeffries, Clark and Aguilera and not Marjorie Taylor Greene, Donald Trump and the most spineless speaker in US history.
America and our allies would have enjoyed 2 years of a functional government. We were so close but here we are... headed for a government shutdown and impeachment of our President based on absolutely nothing.
Hopefully we can get it right in 2024 and vote these MAGA Republicans out of office for good.

(16,069 posts)But I don't think they will succeed in the impeachment. I don't think they have the votes to push it through, even though all they need is a simple majority.
You are so right though. We had a kick-ass fully functioning House until these lunatics took over. Think about all the incredible legislation the Dems got through!
We better obliterate the Republicans next year!

Gerrymandered seats in FL, AL, LA,.
Short story, they didn't win legitimately. They stole the election and have been screaming we stole it the whole time.

(26,283 posts)we're coming to another vote by the end of this month - to continue to fund the government.
If the Repugs crash that vote and we don't fund the government - even though it would be the Repugs fault - the blame will be placed on Biden and the Dems.
If we lost the House in the last election because - the American People felt that the price of gas and groceries were high - how will they vote this time if the government isn't funded - or the economy crashes because of that?

Agree completely. We have to get these fuckers OUT.

(1,220 posts)People forget that less than ten years after the Civil War ended, the Democrats (the party of Southern sympathizers in the North and actual Rebels in the South) regained control of Congress because of the economic Panic of 1873 (among other things).

(28,254 posts)the Republicans would never control the House again.
Democrats have a history of sitting out state elections that along this crap to happen. The world is run by people who show up. I think this might be finally sinking in. I just hope it isnt too late.

(7,839 posts)Still prefer the legion of real expert scientists saying gerrymandering is highly impactful
up to 2018 helped Rs to power time and time again
you can plainly see the evil by looking at a map..plain as day..gerrymandering is evil
and if little effect..Rs wasting their time and massive legal and constitutional efforts? See Wisconsin.
Not at all..they know where the butter for their political toast is.

(13,063 posts)It was in their interests to lie about government being a big problem (Reagan) or lenient Democratic policies letting black people commit crimes (Willie Horton and Bush Sr.) or geeky Gore predicting climate disasters that were now living thoughor hoping we make it through the next one.
Republicans long ago chose the path of white supremacy and rule by their minority because they had the judges, the voters, the media on their side. But finally we have a younger generation who sees how they have tried to destroy our beautiful country, and they are not falling for their Republican BS and hatred against everyone who does not conform to their patriarchal view of life. May the Republican Party die a quick but painful death.

(3,030 posts)It was a made-to-order campaign strategy, except that the Dems are too often beholden to big corporations - oil, pharmaceuticals, etc. - to risk this progressive approach. And it costs them. But to be fair, Biden is making some good moves, esp. re:drug prices, and that should be shouted from the rooftops.

"Dems are too often beholden to big corporation ... to risk this progressive approach" -- oh no, not that old beholden-everyone's-corrupt-Democrats-aren't-progressives nonsense. You left out "status quo" and "establishment."
