Trump drops 6 points in post-debate GOP poll

ormer President Trump saw a slight decrease in his support among Republican primary voters after he skipped the first GOP debate last week, according to a new poll from Emerson College.

The poll, which was conducted Aug. 25-26, found 50 percent of GOP primary voters said they plan to vote for Trump, down from 56 percent in a pre-debate poll and the lowest support to date in an Emerson poll.

At the same time, multiple candidates in the field saw a slight uptick in support in the aftermath of the debate, which took place on Aug. 23 in Milwaukee.

Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley saw the biggest boost, with her support jumping from 2 percent to 7 percent after the debate.

The poll found that 27 percent of voters felt entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy won the debate last week, but it did not immediately translate to an increase in his support, which dropped from 10 percent to 9 percent in the Emerson poll.

Funny that some of the DUers who watched commented on how obnoxious and rude he was. That he talked over the others and made no statements about issues.

I did not watch myself but after hearing the DU critique I thought it perfectly rethug that people on the right think he won. Just like drumpf, as long as you come across as the biggest asshole in the room, that is all the mouth breathers really care about.

Probably thier first look at him, and they thought, "Hey, that guy doesn't look like he comes from the pure white race." So yeah, they thought he did well in the debate and even came across racist enough, but they also realized he's not white.

Hence his winning and his lack of gains. Trump takes most of his votes

Could still be on the verge of statistical noise, especially for all the folks fighting in the 10 percent or less crowd. The fact that no one jumped up to over 15 or 20 means the debate did not really move the needle with people who self report to plan to vote in R primary.

I'll bet that the party is now wishing that they had not gone to plurality winner takes all to prevent looking disorganized like the Dems in case someone did not have enough delegates by the convention.

The people at the bottom might not have a chance to get to a majority when TFG is incarcerated after some, but not all of the primaries, but before the convention.

Fourteen months to go. The only way Trump becomes the Republican candidate is if he manages to put off ALL the trials until after the general election. It is of course possible but not likely.

for any one clown to assert themselves as king-clown yet. Won't stop the fortune-tellers from pretending preferred candidate A has a lock/no-chance at the expense of any other candidate, but I guess that's a problem the clowns will eventually take care of.

Emerson sampled 1000 people by landlines and online poll. They then weighted (manipulated) the results to match predetermined population demographics, voting patterns, etc. Emerson restricted much of their sampling to those who had watched the debate. You are getting down to just a few respondents to make much out of this.
