"SNIP.......
Speaker Kevin McCarthy told House Republicans on a conference call this week that he believes Congress will have to pass a short-term government funding bill to avoid a shutdown this fall, NBC News reports.
The remarks reflect a growing recognition that Congress doesnt have enough time to reach a full-year funding deal before money runs out on Sept. 30. Lawmakers are on a monthlong August recess and return in September, just a few weeks before the deadline.
While McCarthy now privately agrees Congress needs to buy time to reach a funding deal, its not clear how much theyll push for.

(19,382 posts)Seems like we live on CRs. I think they should be forced to sit down and do a budget every year. No more band-aides.

(37,175 posts)I think you need to look further back in time. And you need to sharply reduce that huge number.
It's one of the primary jobs delegated to Congress by the Constitution.
Congress has failed to do this primary job on time more than 3% of the time on time since Clinton, and just simply failed to this primary job since Clinton more than 4% of the time.

(19,382 posts)The media seems to always discuss it. But then really is quiet when an actual budget is signed. My fault for not paying attention closely.
