(21,882 posts)I honestly don't understand. Are you implying that Jack Smith and the DOJ should just forget the whole thing? I'm serious. I honestly don't understand what you're getting at.
I can't read the article you posted because of the paywall, but I can tell you this: Trump is toast. He can make all the revenge plans he wants, but he's going down regardless. This is the United States government he's up against. The U.S. military can squash his delusional followers like the nasty little stink bugs that they are if that's what's called for.
Sure, he would love to crush our democracy, but he's not going to get the chance. He couldn't do it on J6 when he was still in the White House and in a position to deprive the Capitol police of the resources they needed to fight off the insurrectionists, and he sure as hell can't do it now, with Joe Biden in charge.
He's going down for his crimes, period, full stop. Any mess he tries to make on his way out will be dealt with as needed and will NOT stop Jack Smith or any other prosecutor from doing their job.
As for the Republican Party "breaking our democracy," let them fucking try. Anyone who wants to give up and surrender to the forces of evil needs to get out of the damned way, because the rest of us will be fighting tooth and nail, and we will NOT go down without one hell of a fight!

(4,741 posts)Contrary to what people here think, he's not crazy.
He's a malignant narcissist who is devolving from narcissistic injury into narcissistic rage. And that makes him exceedingly dangerous right now.
What he's hoping he can accomplish by stirring up his base is that if he can't have something, then nobody else can, either. He seriously thinks that all those bad people took "his" country away from him, and if he can't have it, then he'll destroy the country rather than let anyone else have it. He wants his flying monkeys to destroy the country. for him.
This is what he's after now. Because it's what all malignant narcissists go for when they can't get what they want--I can't have it, so neither will you.
His malignant narcissism has always been one of the most dangerous things about him, because thwarted narcissists will do anything--and I do mean *anything*--to destroy those who don't let them have their way.
D23MIURG23
(3,135 posts)He's pretty forthcoming about how he intends to use his next term to make war on the government for denying him reelection.
He'll happily try to destroy the country. The question is how far will his followers and the GOP go to please him, and what can they make happen on his behalf? You'd think at some point they'd get wise to the fact that they are destroying themselves and the country, but I haven't seen much awareness of that yet.
Thanks for the insightful take.

One of the things judges at every level cannot abide is anyone who demonstrates contempt for the court. They will not look kindly on an appeal over a contempt charge. That's why it would take an egregious failure on Chutkin's part for him to win such an appeal. We're talking insulting him with slurs in court, sentencing him to a cruel and unusual punishment for the charge against him--that sort of thing.
They will never rule against a judge levying a contempt charge who behaves in a professional mannerand makes a fair call about his behavior.

Now, here's where I'm confused. IF this was ANYONE else, he'd be picked up at his house, even BEFORE the Monday deadline to respond to his first violation?

We can split hairs all we want about what he is "implying" or how "specific" it is but as this is not a conviction and is simply a pre-trial condition the bar is not as high as it is to convict and get over 1A hurdles and such.
We all know anyone arrested, after someone they assaulted presses charges, who posts on social media the things drumpf has, would have they bond revoked and not be able to use "I was talking about the Koch brothers" or some such nonsense as an excuse.
