COLUMBUS, Ohio Ohioans soon will see the first major advertising in favor of State Issue 1 but its not coming from the campaign organized to pass it.
Rather, its coming from the group working to defeat the potential November ballot measure that would enshrine abortion rights in the Ohio Constitution.
Officials with Protect Women Ohio said Friday that they will be spending $3 million to help pass State Issue 1, including $2 million they said would pay to air a 30-second ad that will appear on TV stations around the state.
The TV ad notably does not mention the word abortion, in keeping with Republicans mostly private acknowledgment that arguing abortion should be illegal is a losing political issue. It also doesnt describe what Issue 1 would do, which is make it harder to amend the state constitution, including for the potential abortion-rights amendment in November.
Rather, it shows an image of a drag queen on television, saying voting for Issue 1 would help parents protect their children and keep this madness out of Ohio classrooms, despite there being no clear relationship between Issue 1 and educational curriculum.

(7,249 posts)Key point was to vote Yes to prevent out of state interests from using big miners to affect Ohios constitution. Second message was all about caring for womens health.
What a disingenuous crock of chit. It really is 1984 up-is-down and black-is-white messaging.

(7,286 posts)It may be a matter of semantics, but the headline is clearly at odds with the article. The provided excerpt alone makes it clear that, even if not literally "from the 'yes' camp", this group is a strong ally:

Gaslighting writ large.
