Win or Lose, Chris Christie Is Running the Best Campaign Against Trump

Daily Beast

Not only is Chris Christie the only Republican who understands he is running against Trump, he’s the only candidate who comes close to matching him as an entertainer.

Don’t look now, but Chris Christie is having a moment.

While Donald Trump is clearly the prohibitive front-runner for the Republican nomination, there is no denying that Christie is the most interesting of the growing Republican field of candidates clamoring for that coveted spot. Consider just a few of Christie’s recent greatest hits.

When Trump mocked Christie’s weight, Christie, appearing on Fox News’ “MediaBuzz,” responded, “Oh what, like he’s some Adonis?” When asked about Trump diverting campaign money to pay for his legal expenses, Christie called him “the cheapest S.O.B. I’ve ever met in my life.” And regarding the GOP’s performances in 2018, 2020, and 2022, Christie called the former president a “three-time loser.” For better or worse, when it comes to throwing elbows, at least, he kind of sounds like…Trump.

Christie is also not above dinging other Republicans for their cowardice towards Trump.

to beat the ultimate dirt bag but I doubt it. The cult loves them some Trumpler. He'll be the nominee with loud mouth Lake as the VP. A losing ticket if I've ever seen one.

The mistake nearly everyone who has run against Trump on the R side makes is that they have flashes of understanding how to counter him but lack the will to keep up the attack. The trick is to *never* waver from the plan.

Christie also understands that his role is to wound Trump as much as possible, preferably (figuratively) fatally. I don't think he's in it to win it at all.

well unscathed. Might even say he benefitted from it.

Do not fuck with Christie over big stuff.

There are just too many republicans that can't handle any more of the crazy that trump & his band of sycophants have conjured. I think Christy will take the lead, and I think it's going to start showing in the polls sooner than later.

I also think it's going to signal a big break for all the republicans that have been spinelessly dissing trump behind his back for so many years, and the republican party.

and he can be funny. If he gets to debate Trump, he will land some blows.

Nobody likes DeSantis, so if Trump gets convicted, Repubs will probably look to the next loudest bully, which is Christie.

I hope none of them get to be president, but I am fairly sure Christie would take better care of our nuclear secrets.

and I don't care if he's portly. Keep going Christie - he's really winding the trumpers up and he does not care.
