(4,741 posts)He's the national enquirer of the left--tons of speculation and rumors, and little to back up any of it.
He is also notorious for never correcting misinformation othat he posts. I've seen posts where his information gets challenged--he does absolutely bugger all to correct the record.
Don't know why so many on the left give that gadfly any credence. He has no particular expertise, credentials or even access. He's simply a blogger with too much time on his hands.

Judge Cannon DENIES without prejudice govt's motion to require defendants to acknowledge agreement not to speak with a list of 84 witnesses that would be sealed from court. Demands more explanation from govt of why names must be sealed.

(127,873 posts)to win the motion, since there's a strong presumption that such information should not be sealed (and some media outlets also objected) meaning that the prosecution isn't likely to win on appeal. Before the knees start jerking we might ask ourselves how we would react if TFG and not the prosecutor had made a motion to seal evidence. Cannon needs watching but this was not a demonstrably wrong decision in light of the fact that apparently the prosecution didn't offer reasons sufficient to overcome the general practice of not filing witness lists under seal. The likely reason, of course, is TFG's tendency to try to influence or intimidate witnesses. He will now have another to walk into Smith's trap - providing even more evidence of TFG's obstruction.

(9,629 posts)Or were they concerned about how it would appear if they said they were concerned TFG would sic his cult members on the witness list?

(127,873 posts)They don't have enough specific evidence right now that TFG will try to influence the witnesses on the list; only the fact that he or his minions did some dodgy shit wrt the 1/6 committee witnesses, so they probably knew the motion wouldn't succeed. I'm thinking that Smith filed the motion to let TFG and his lawyers know that they will be paying very, very close attention to what the grand jury witnesses do and say once TFG knows who they are and what they said (and we have to assume he already knows about most of them - as do we), and that if any of those witnesses start trying to back off their grand jury testimony Smith will find out why, and maybe pile on a few more obstruction of justice charges.

(21,823 posts)I feel greatly reassured by your clear explanations.
I know a lot of us have been on edge ever since Cannon was assigned to this case, half expecting her to do something awful at any moment and ready to pounce when/if she does. Thanks for being the voice of reason in this instance.

(42,338 posts)he did behind-the-scenes work on witness tampering. Forgot the details, but the fact that he dug in to uncover the tampering stood out to me.

(7,794 posts)Delay of trial for a hearing about this issue and the hearing is 3 weeks away. Am I wrong or will this delay the scheduled trial date? If all that is needed is a decision on this matter, why does it take 3 weeks to even get to the venue to make that decision?
Is our justice system going to allow Trump to get re-elected with this kabuki dance? When every opportunity to disrupt the schedule is accepted as legitimate and the system's response is to allow another delay how is the sense of urgency not lost? This thing could easily go into 2025.
What's wrong with scheduling this hearing for tomorrow AM? Why 3/4 of a month? Will a whole new legal team be required to catch up from scratch to settle every dispute between the teams? Is this not foreseeable and thus avoidable?

(2,617 posts)I mean, that's just not how he operates. There is no way he would tweet and mention them by name, call them liars and worse. That's just not how he rolls.
In other words, Cannon is a judge who wants to help a defendant with a known pattern of intimidation, to scare the witnesses. I hope she is disbarred over this one. I wonder how bad her judgment is on all her other trials.

(1,663 posts)of the witnesses? Apparently she doesn't know who she is dealing with. The moment those names are released every one of them will be in danger. I think the 11th Circuit will understand that and prevent it from happening. If they 86 her as well, so much the better.

(336 posts)explanation of why QUANTITY(?) 84 (potential) witnesses? Are 84 witnesses excessive in a 38-count, 49-page Federal Indictment of this complexity?
