(21,823 posts)UCC has been promoting inclusivity for years. From their website:

(68,911 posts)... local Methodists over their berserk attitude towards LGBT. They're leaving the national Methodists Convention over this issue.
85% of the congregation voted to turn their backs on LGBT Christians. I can't believe I've know some of these people twenty years and never realized they were bigots. the MAGA is strong out here, and I'm just considered a misled hippie.

(189 posts)In Spokane, but we heard that 12 churches in the Northwest Conference have voted to leave

(23,487 posts)Fort Worth TX.. No big meetings, a vote was not held at the Board & not discussed, therefore no congregational vote. Our membership was clearly not interested. Most of the larger UMC churches in Tarrant County voted to stay. One or two went independent, and I am certain a number of churches went with the Global. I would expect the NW Conference to have a low number voting to leave. The percentages in the Southeastern Jurisdiction are much higher.
We are the largest UMC in our area (5000 members, approximately). Some of the local churches changed their names and are now "independent" churches. This gets them out of the funds they pay annually to the Conference.
some are going with the Global Methodist Churches. It varies according to location, but percentages of those leaving run around 35% to 40 % of the churches in the various annual Conferences, many of which are I would add that according to our ministers, smaller and rural churches are the majority of those leaving for the Global. I think there is a window of opportunity for these churches to move to the Global without surrendering their property to the UMC Annual Conference. This may be why we are seeing the large numbers exiting now - so they keep their buildings and land.
Surrender of property was a key issue in the negotiations. FUMC FW has a huge campus on the edge of downtown FW. Our parking alone would be a huge money maker for the Conference. I can see developers salivating over all that land with visions of condominiums and apartment buildings dancing in their heads.
We are going to have conservatives in every UMC congregation who migrate over to a GMC or independent, and Progressive members from the GMC churches who will transfer membership to a UMC church.
I think the "Globalists" stirred up this stink and made every effort to soil the nest enough that WE would be the ones who left ( and surrender our property) I am so glad it turned out they were the ones to leave.
This was a long time coming; the change in allowing gay ministers; marriage of gay persons by any minister etc has been voted on at every General Conference (international meeting every 4 years) for at least 30 years. Every time the vote was closer to make the changes; the African and some of the South American delegates were always the ones who drove the majority, along with the votes of delegates from conservative Annual Conferences.
Finally a compromise was reached, freeing congregations to leave without surrendering their property.

The Holy Roman Church (yes, I know it's not any of these things) worships the poor woman who had to put up with all of these lies. I bet she has a good story to tell --- except those stories are all written by men.

(128,882 posts)by his early 30s. Before him, and Moses before, people sacrificed children and scapegoated others.There were fewer murders and more children surviving into adulthood after the Bible. So what if the scribes got a bit supernatural. Lives were saved. You know that Democracy is a human construct too.

For the Bible folks:::
Eve was the first transgender. Originally 100% male.
God was OK with it.

(40,915 posts)When God created the animals, he gave them the ability to reproduce.
========================================
God created Adam but Adam could not reproduce so he had to adapt, improvise, and overcome by later making Eve.
But why would Adam have to reproduce?
Adam was made in God's image and God has no mate.
Adam could live forever.

(21,675 posts)IT (to be politically correct) could have made ITself a mate that would satisfy ITs urges to do what IT wanted. Of course that mate might have become more powerful than IT and lead to a whole new set of fantasy and legends and bibbles and korans with begats and beheads.

(13,704 posts)We spent the time casually discussing religion and I joked about the different denominations, like "Assembly of God? Wasn't he already assembled?" We passed a church called the "Church of Christ" and I joked that they apparently thought they owned Christ. He replied that that was his church. One of the most liberal people I've ever met, he had been a CO ambulance driver in World War I. That's how I learned about the Congregational church.

(23,487 posts)One is hard core literalist, fundamentalist and if it isn't in the Bible, they won't do it. No instrumental music. No women on boards. Rules on who can serve on the boards even if male: over 50, married, never divorced. Evolution is anathema. No dancing, alcohol. ( l laugh when I think of the Wedding in Cana with the water into wine, and since it was a Jewish/Middle Eastern wedding they danced until they dropped)
The other is a much more moderate church and is one of the denominations which formed the United Churches of Christ.
If the gentleman was a member of the former, I do not know how he stood it, unless he just stayed for the singing which is fabulous.
