An Oregon high school asked boys to stop vandalizing its bathrooms after stocking them with free menstrual products, according to a Friday email obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation.
Over the last few weeks, Lakeridge High School officials have said that tampon dispensers were taken off the wall in boys bathrooms and placed in the toilet, according to an email obtained by the DCNF. All K-12 bathrooms in the Lake Oswego School District offer free menstrual products for students in order to comply with state law which requires schools to provide such resources in gender-neutral, male and female restrooms.

The high school provided parents with resources on menstruation, menstrual products, sexuality and health, to aid them in conversations with their children about the topics, the email stated. The resources included two videos which explain that menstruation is a normal part of puberty for a person that has a uterus.
Growing Up OK, a brochure on puberty provided in the email and recommended for grades K-12, explains wet dreams, erections and ejaculations.
Each time that the dispensers are taken down, the school needs to spend time and resources putting them back up in order to be compliant with House Bill 3294 [Menstrual Dignity Act], the email stated. We are asking our student body to be respectful of school property, and to be sensitive to all of our students needs.

(16,339 posts)A bit privileged there. More than a bit.
Fun fact about the lake itself- all privately owned. No public access except for one city park and you have to be a resident to swim there.

(16,339 posts)If theyre presenting as boys and theyre on their period, why should they be required to use the girls bathroom.
But you know this.

(4,741 posts)In case the only girls' bathroom is out of service. Some school buildings have only one bathroom per gender inside, and girls must use the boys' bathrooms if their restroom is closed.
Had it happen at one of my son's schools when a vandal attacked the girls' bathroom, as in shattering the toilets in them. So the girls were using the boys restroom until the toilets got replaced. The reason they couldn't simply let her go to another building was because all exterior doors automatically locked from the outside when classes were in session (safety feature), and so getting to a loo elsewhere meant keeping someone available with keys to get her into another building, then back into her own building. Easier to let the girls and guys share, for the time being. They had surprisingly few problems from that.

(10,735 posts)Surely this has never happened before.
I am concerned and appalled.
I was in a Safeway bathroom yesterday and stepped over a syringe.
Somehow, that bothered me a little more.

(9,279 posts)It may help slow the stop of STDs and teen pregnancy, this seems to be a waste of money. If you use the boys room and need a sanitary product, stop ar the nurses office on the way.

(9,279 posts)The bigger ones in northern VA ( Fairfax, Arlington, Alexandria ) do also. Tons of kids are on meds and have allergies. There is around 160,000 kids in the Fairfax system and there is a health unit in every school.

(16,339 posts)Then there is not any reason for them to use the girls bathroom.
I wish everywhere would switch to non gendered bathrooms.
Lake Oswego in particular could afford to.

(9,238 posts)This is simple reality. Its like shopping in a store. If a person identifies as male but has breasts, they would need to shop in the female section of the store to buy bras. Correct?
But yes I agree there should be non-gendered bathrooms.

(23,299 posts)I would say huh. Someone must have put that there in case a male with a uterus needs it due to menstruating.
Then I would do my business and leave.

(52,718 posts)1. Weld the tampon dispensers to the side of the row of stalls so they can't be removed.
2. Install crying towel dispensers next to them to take care of all the right-wing snowflake tears.
