Lamar Johnson: Innocent man served 28 years now free

I just stumbled upon this and I wanted to share it. I was so glad to hear this innocent man was freed, but I was *infuriated* to also learn that, apparently, Lamar Johnson received NO compensation for being wrongfully accused.

While no amount of money can compensate him for his 28-year-long nightmare, at least it could have assured him he’d have no money worries. So glad he’s free but so disgusted that the morons who wrongfully convicted him are enjoying impunity.
The irony.

This from the Innocence Project website:

“The federal government, the District of Columbia, and 38 states have compensation statutes of some form.

The following 12 states do not have compensation laws: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Georgia, Kentucky, New Mexico, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, and Wyoming.”

these stories didn't almost always revolve around an innocent minority person being convicted of a crime they didn't do.
