Without coverage from Idahos Medicaid program, Moscow resident Erin Singer is convinced she would have felt forced to seek an abortion when she got pregnant with her son in 2017.
And without coverage from Medicaid after she gave birth, Singer wouldnt have been able to afford the physical therapy required to treat the debilitating pelvic condition she developed during pregnancy.
Singer discovered she was pregnant just a few days before a rheumatologist told her the frequent headaches, aches and pains and the multiple miscarriages she had experienced were likely due to an autoimmune disease that causes abnormal blood clotting. In order to safely continue her pregnancy, Singer had to take an injectable blood thinner.
Without insurance, the medication can cost between $75 and $250 per month, which Singer said she wouldnt have been able to afford.
Its not just the baby that could have a problem (without it), I could have a stroke. And I had a (2-year-old) daughter to think about, Singer said.

(5,237 posts)just refuse to believe any of these medical conditions are real, or dismiss them as so rare that not many women will die.

(75,847 posts)Yep that is Ok with them, some women will die needlessly.
Miguelito Loveless
(5,237 posts)to them was: And exactly how many women are you willing to see die? Round numbers, please.
They refused to answer.

A fearful and terrified population is a docile, easily intimidated society.
Which is the goal of fascist regimes.

(12,089 posts)If they want to force you to birth a baby then turn around and take away your postpartum health care it's not about the babies. It's about hurting and killing women.
If they are A OK with forcing birth on all women And taking away help for after the birth, what else will they do to women. More witch hunts and burnings?
Postpartum is the deadliest time for women. Birth infections can kill you. If the placenta isn't fully expelled...like with my friend's daughter...a rapid deadly infection will ensue. Heavy antibiotics will take care of it but with dwindling postpartum care, where can you find a doctor to treat it. We all know without Medicaid funds a lot of services are not profitable enough to retain in hospitals and clinics.
Women need to leave Idaho before it becomes a medical ghetto for women.
"Ghettos were always defined by lack of choice they were places inhabitants were forced to live, whether by anti-Semitic governments, discriminating neighbors or racist practices like redlining."

(16,058 posts)Just announced that they will no longer offer obstetrics care. Pregnant women will have to travel 50 miles or more to find a hospital when they are in labor. And if they have postpartum problems? Oh well. Sucks to be from Idaho, I guess.
They are also just about to pass another law that criminalizes anyone who abets a minor from going out of state (or obtaining pills) to get abortion care without parental consent. Minimum two years in prison on conviction.
